I am running on a unlocked 2.0.1 2G iPhone and I think now is the time to make an effort and upgrade to 2.2.1. I have a few questions:

Can I jump straight from 2.0.1 to 2.2.1?

Is it as simple as last time? I have been reading alot of baseband warnings that I am not understanding.

Will my cydia installed apps still work? (That is the absolute decision maker)

Sorry for all the questions and just want to make sure thanks!

Get AptBackup. Now backup for Jailbreak apps in that, and sync with iTunes. this will make a backup of your phone. Restore your phone to factory, then upgrade to 2.2.1. Then use PwnageTool/QuickPwn/WinPwn to jailbreak. Now restore your iTunes backup onto the phone. finally, re-install AptBackup via Cydia, click restore, and all your JB apps will return as if by magic.

Thank you, done as you said and now everything is back working perfectly :)

Ok.. So I had a 2.1 jailbroken 3G.. I followed this guide and I'm having some problems..

I installed and ran aptbackup.. I then backed up via Itunes, restored and upgraded to 2.2.1 via itunes, ran quickpwn with no issues.. Restored backup via Itunes and then installed aptbackup again.. While running the restore in it my phone went black and would not come back no matter what.. The phone would ring when I called it but nothing would show on the screen..

So, I restored in Itunes to factory 2.2.1 and then went through the process again.. Jailbroke and after running quickpwn I have no cydia icon (but it was selecting before pwning it).

Any ideas? Thanks!

Did you install categories? That could be your problem. Enable and then disable the parental controls and the icon should show back up.

As for the black screen, I had the same issue. I turned on WIFI and ran APT Backup and had no further issues.

I had categories installed before on my 2.1, yes.. But right now it's like I have a stock iphone.. There are no other icons then the stock icons..

Categories is the problem. Go into settings/general/restrictions and turn them on and then exit and go back in and turn them off. Voila your cydia will be back. :D

You are the man!!!!

Now, about restoring my stuff via aptbackup.. You said you had to turn on WIFI? My wifi is ON but it's not connected.. Does it have to be connected?

If it does go black.. Do I have to restore again?

Thanks!

I would have it connected. Apt Backup has to download all of that stuff. That's why the screen went black. It takes forever over the air. Wifi is much quicker.
