i was just woundering what you guys use to clean ur computer screen. will i damage the powerbook screen if i use eye glass cleaner?

I believe Windex may have something in it that will damage the protective coating on your display or I've heard. It just take a paper towel, wet it down, ring it out good and then gently clean the finger prints off the display and have a SOFT cloth available in case you get too much water on the display. Try very hard not to let any water go between the display and the edges. Thats the reason for the soft cloth.

As far as the other parts of the computer, I use rubbing alcohol to clean the rest of my computer, trying not to get it on my display of my flat panel iMac. It gets the finger prints off and also takes all the germs off it.

get you some iKlear, I use it and it works great. And when you're finished cleaning the screen the cloth is handy for cleaning the rest of your powerbook.

as for the household cleaners, I'd steer clear of those, you don't know what's in that stuff. If you really can't bring yourself to spend the cash on an approved cleaning solution, check you're manual it states to use a lent free lightly damp cloth.

Stay away from anything containing ammonia it will eat the coating the factory puts on the glass. I use a product taht I find at my local Drug Store called "Endust for Electronics" It's specifically made for TVs, Computer monitors, VCRs etc. It's ammonia free and wax free. I just looked at the can and can only see that it is ditributed by Kiwi Brands, Douglassville, PA 19518-1239 in the USA.

So those electronics cleaning cloths are ok for this?

If you plan on using iKlear, your display must be cold or it will streak like nothing else. Leave the display off for a few hours (at night maybe) prior to cleaning, otherwise you'll just make it look worse.

I am confirming that this is absolutely true. iKlear is great but wait at least an hour ar two before wiping the screen down. (I put my computer in the freezer for 10 minutes).

I use my "Endust for Electronics" any time and it works just fine, no streaks no matter how long the computer or the TV for that matter have been on. I dooooo recommend using a 100% cotton rag though. Avoiding any abrasives will also extend the life of the screen.

Note: it doesn't repair deep scratches, but does a helluva job cleaning oil, dirty, grease, spit, nostral nuggets, blood, smudges, and other stuff you like to smear on your LCD screen.

I use filtered water and a soft cloth. The water will eventually add up to $0.01 over the course of several years and the cloth was once part of an old t-shirt which had depreciated to a value of $0.00 before being cut up for rags.
