How I un-bricked my iPod (Bricked as in iPod doing nothing at all) after redsn0w

iPod touch (1G and 2G) and iPhone (2G and 3G) only.
After I tried to use iRecovery with redsn0w, I came across a bit of a problem--my iPod didn't boot up.
Nor did it give me a recovery image.
Nor did it give me a picture.
Whatsoever.
And when I plugged my iPod into my computer I got a 'USB Device Not Recognized' error.
So I couldn't put it in DFU or Recovery mode.
Here's how I fixed it.


Plug up your iPod
Open iTunes
Hold down Sleep/Wake and Home for exactly 10 seconds
Release Sleep/Wake and continue holding Home
Restore using the official firmare and wait for an untethered jailbreak

So, it wasn't bricked. It's only bricked when even a DFU restore wont work, which is what you did. So you could've just said 'Fix bricked iPod through DFU'. And we all know about that anyway so... A bit of a pointless thread really :p

Umm... you know that that's standard behavior with redsn0w lite, right? You have to go through DFU every time you boot.

Actually, my iPod didn't reboot after I used iRecovery to tell it to.
So I thought something was wrong.

So I tried a hard reset.

Which was STUPID!

Because my iPod did absolutely nothing at all.
No DFU, No recovery image, and when it was plugged in it gave me a 'USB Device Not Recognized' Error.

That, to me, is bricked.

Oh, and iRecovery didn't find it either (Probably because my computer didn;t know it was an iPod.)

Same thing happened to me. But it's normal. The iPod will be a paperweight until put into DFU mode and pwned.

just pointing out holding the power/home for ten sec then just home IS dfu so dfu DOES work. also your not supposed to use irecovery with redsn0w i tried and it was a lot more code. just use rslite

That is part of the redsn0w process. You should've head read a guide or watched a tutorial so you know what to expect.

that is not a bricked iPod if it was bricked then the pc or mac wouldn't even recognise it being plugged in

the definition of a bricked iPod is one that does not power on, is not recognised by a pc mac or otherwise and just as a whole does nothing what so ever........ yours was recognised by your pc or mac ergo not bricked.

read instructions in detail next time ;)

Even if it's not recognised by PC or Mac, it's not bricked. That can be relatively easily fixed. Bricked is when there is no way to fix it, it is permanently broken.
