Converting old protected AAC songs to the new equivalent itunes plus!?

I have some protected aac songs which I downloaded ages ago from itunes. Now these same songs are itunes plus! How do you go about getting a replacement/conversion, without having to pay again?

You can choose to upgrade from within iTunes Store.

However, you will still have to pay $0.30 per song to upgrade.
