Do you need DFU to remove all traces of a JB? Or will a restore be enough?

I restored to get rid of the jailbreak, but my phone is still laggy with animation and such.

Does restoring really remove all the remnants of the old software? Or do I need to enter into DFU first?

I'm sorry if this thread has been discussed, I MRoogle'd it with no luck.
