I just whipped this one up in adobe photoshop tonight. Tell me what you think:

Understand. I like the idea of a different color for those who want it.

The Nano and Shuffle come in a variety of colors and the Classic in both black and white models.

Variety is nice.

someone asked me earlier about the battery icon, which i have changed to the word (RED), and as the battery depletes, the letters turn white from right to left, like how the battery depletes.

the (RED) thing is the battery icon.

i guess i'll add that to the top of the post.. the letters turn white like the battery depleting.

The front of the iPod Touch and iPhone really only looks good with Black. But the back looks good with any colour. The reason the front only looks good with Black is because of the screen. When its off its black and when its on it uses a Black background for the Home screen. It looks at its best when it is surrounded by a Black bezel as it softens the eye to the thickness of the bezel around the screen. If you add any other colour to this it begins to stick out and looks unattractive.

This is the reason the iPhone and iPod Touch ship with a Black bezel as do the Unibody Macs, most LCD TV's and the new 24" Apple Display.

thats what all the other people were telling me at iLounge Forums.

i could see it be annoying for some people, but i would not mind at all... in fact, if i could, i'd change mine, but that's not gonna happen.

The iPhone and iPod touch have little tiny sensors under the glass. It would look like crap with that color as there would be black circles in the white/red/blue/whatever.

if apple ever decided to build chromatic iPod touch models, by that time, they will have ambient light sensors built into the screen, even though they havent found out a way yet with the backlight.

and besides, it is just one little tiny sensor anyways, they could manage to cover it up somehow i'm sure

more than one color would be tough.

even if i did try to make one, it wouldn't be very good.

you'll just have to dream of one :) ... or get adobe photoshop (best photo editing software) and make one yourself. though, you have to pay for photoshop.

that sounded like a better idea after thinking about it for awhile.

note:that i have not added monochrome, that is just too much. even the red might be going too far, but black and white are apples original colors.

In my opinion, they all look terrible. They make it look like a little toy instead of a high powered gadget. In fact, if the Touch only came in colors like this, I wouldn't have purchased one because I'd feel like a middle school girl pulling it out in public. Just like others have said, you can't change the front to any color besides black. The back casing however could be different colors and I think that would look good. I would prefer more metallic colors than the ones you have chosen though.

I would rather an all black. I hate the way the bezel pops out at you. I wanted to do a mod to my iPhone to make the bezel black. Maybe its because I hate chrome.
I took all the chrome off my truck as well as put black rims on it. My truck is black BTW.

Yes (Srsly), I use it a lot for communication, maps, emails, checking reviews, booking reservations, etc. I'm on the go a lot and having this thing has made my life much simpler. Not to mention I've managed to hit much better restaurants, bars, etc when I am in an unfamiliar part of the city. I don't use it for playing games. I have a Windows Mobile phone, but it is older and the browser and processor speed makes it very difficult to use, but I broadcast the internet I get through it to WiFi so I can use internet on my Touch anywhere I can get a cell signal.

thanks. I actually love my current WinMo phone, htc touch, but it doesn't have wifi. So I'm kinda getting forced into the touch diamond. And now hopefully apple will let JaJah release there phone/text app for the iPod touch. Then I could absolutely have the best of both worlds.

I currently have the HTC Mogul and I like it, but it's sloooooow. I think I tried to do too much modification to it and even after I restored it back to orginal, it's still slow. I'm waiting for the Pre to release. I may switch providers this summer depending on the big 3 phones being release. It will be interesting to compare the G2, Palm Pre, and the new iPhone.

The mogul IS slow, no offense. I am keeping my eye on the Pre as well as the rumored "whitestone" htc's touch hd in a sprint flavor. That will be an amazing device. Especially since the rumor says it will be on WiMax!

So it's a glorified toy, not a tool. It's a gadget. After all it is the "funnest" iPod ever.

I like the white touch more than the (red). I like black the best on the front though. Any color on the back would look cool.

Making the iPod touch in different colors (white, black, RED [really?], etc...) would ruin Apple's look. When a person walks into the Apple Retail Store, they see a clean white shop, with simple wood fixtures, and everywhere they look is the gorgeous aluminum and black. Having multiple colors would make the store feel extremely trashy.

it used to be always black & white. Those old big imacs started to come in different colors, and now they have chromatic ipod nanos and shuffles. in my opinion, they should have never discontinued the white ipods, and never started with the silver, even though all ipods (except for touch) have metal fronts.

They should only have black and white.

If your willing to pony up the cash you can have just about anything you like as far as color is concerned! I think they'll even incorporate graphics into the design if you like! I prefer the metallic grey for the back, and the carbon black for the button. I'd get a bright red dock too!

That's your opinion, but if Apple kept Black and White things would start to get boring. iPod nanos and shuffles have always been in color, they appeal to a younger demographic as well as the regular adult crowd. Right now it's the only line that gets color and I don't see chromatic colors for iPhones/Touches any time soon.

Also what's wrong with Aluminum? It's more sturdy, and lasts longer than white or black plastic. And in my opinion along with many others, Aluminum is more appealing than just white and black. They are mixing Alu with Black lately which looks good ( i.e. New iMacs, Macbooks )

They look hideous... It's not that I don't like colors but the way you render it just doesn't look all that sleek. Maybe the back would look great with colors but the front should stay black.

white and black are my fav. colors, so it's just my opinion (I'm boring right). I think aluminum is too boring, like something dell or hp would use, but i feel that crisp white appeals to a younger crowd. As long as the white does not turn beige or cream, its all good for me. Aluminum appeals to my mom, and thats a bad thing.. lol jk.

because I have the second gen iPod, and when I say second gen, I dont mean crappy second gen nano, or shuffle, or touch, I mean the original second gen iPod which looks just like the first gen except for some minor differences on the top of the device, and guess what, it is white. Apple was like the first company to make white stuff that looked cool after black and grey started to become popular. They proved that white does not have to yellow over time, and that it can look cool on mp3 players and laptops, so therfore, I believe that white should be apples signature color.

Are you talking about the Macbook, Mac mini, iPhone, iPod, Airport, Airport express, mighty mouse, keyboard, or the apple adapters? White is still very much apart of Apple. The only place they've gotten rid of it is the iMac.

I'm talking about since the newest design shift. Don't for a second think that the MacBook will be around in its current incarnation much longer.

The networking being plastic is a given, and the iPods aren't white anymore.

I see a new Mighty Mouse soon, and the adapters being aluminum would only make them even more ludicrously expensive.

One? All of the MacBook Pros and the Mac Pro?

If we're counting white as an accent color, then I agree; we certainly haven't lost it, but it isn't Apple's signature anymore, and it isn't crucial for them to keep around.
