I forgot my username to login to my macbook.

Yesterday i changed my full username by adding my telephone #. today when i started my macbook i had to type the username and pasw.

I might have mistyped my telephone number yesterday 🙁 so i want to find out what the users are right now.

thanks!

Have you tried to log in with your short name?

ps., and just out of curiosity: why did you add your phone number?

The only time you should ever have to manually enter in a username or shortname is if you have root user enabled...There's probably a command in single-user to recover the shortname/username but I leave that response for someone who knows how to use Terminal properly.

Not really. If you disable automatic login, you can choose to have name and password entered in the login screen instead of showing a list of users...

The following should work (unix commands in bold)

1. Boot into Single User Mode (hold Command+S while booting)
2. /sbin/mount -uw /
3. launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.DirectoryServices.plist
4. dscl . -list /users realname
5. Look at the list of user names to find out about your shortname and full user name.
6. reboot

Thanx everyone!

booting in single mode did the trick, retrieved my short name by looking into the user files and got it done.
Felt a bit stupid , but it works again so he

I think i was in "root"at least thats what it stated in s-mode .

I am working in a hospital in dar es salaam tanzania, and i thougt if someone would "find" my computer they at least had the chance to give me a ring. turned it back to the old name now 🙂
