I have some video from a Hitachi dvd video cam on a DVD-RAM, when i put the disc in the drive of my G5, it doesnt read it and spits it back out. Final cut wont import it because the G5 cant find it and the camera only supports usb. Am i missing something? Do i need a driver? What do you think?

Well, the package says that it can be read in DVD-rom drives.

Well, the package says that it can be read in DVD-rom drives. It can be read in some DVD-ROM drives, but not your DVD-ROM drive. Seriously, Apple was the first personal computer manufacturer to sell DVD-RAM drives back in the early days of the G4. However, everyone else went with CD-R/RW in response to the exploding popularity of using CDs to burn music. Apple bowed to market pressure and replaced its DVD-RAM drive with the SuperDrive or combo drive. Since then, DVD-RAM has experienced something of a comeback in DVRs. Apple does not go backwards, but you might lbe able to find an external DVD-RAM drive.

I think Panasonic still make DVD-RAM drives,
LG makes a great DVD+-R/RW, DVD-RAM drive
