S stanny macrumors 6502 Original poster Feb 9, 2009 #1 I'm on Leopard 10.5.6, Mac Mini. Does the sleep function use power? If yes, how much power to maintain that sleep state? Can I switch off my power plug after putting it to sleep?

r.j.s Moderator emeritus Feb 9, 2009 #2 Yes, sleep uses some power. On a notebook, you can switch off the power plug, the battery will carry it through - for a long time. On an iMac or Mac Pro, no, you cannot cut the power while it is sleeping, unless you want to boot from scratch.

P PlaceofDis macrumors Core Feb 9, 2009 #3 sleep does use power. i do not know the exact amount though but it is very small.
S stanny macrumors 6502 Original poster Feb 9, 2009 #4 Yeah I would like to know the amount. Is it worth it sleeping it most of the time, all year round?

Is it worth it sleeping it most of the time, all year round? Click to expand... Depends on how often you use it ... if you use it several times a day for short periods, then yes. If you go days without using it, then shut it down.

S stanny macrumors 6502 Original poster Feb 9, 2009 #8 Yeah, probably about 2-3 times a day, then when I go to sleep, probably best to shut down?
r.j.s Moderator emeritus Feb 9, 2009 #9 It's really on you, can you wait that extra time for it to start up in the morning? I'd probably sleep it during the day, and shut down at night. I found that the mini uses 25W when on and idle, but nothing on the sleep mode.

S stanny macrumors 6502 Original poster Feb 9, 2009 #10 Woah nothing? No power consumption at all? Heck, I'll just sleep it all year round then. Sweet, thanks!

patrick0brien macrumors 68040 Feb 9, 2009 #11 I think sleep averages about 0.5 watts. Most of it taken by the blinky light, and keyboard/mouse power (so you can wake it again)

No, not no power consumption. It does use power. There just is no data available that I could find. Google might be your friend if you are worried about the exact amount.
