View Full Version : Possible? 1GB Stick of RAM in Dual 1.25GHz PowerMac?

I just purchased a Dual 1.25GHz PowerMac G4 on ebay. The seller answered a question about RAM and told me that it has 1x 1GB stick in it. I know there are 4 slots, and a max of 2.0GB total, but can it accept a 1GB stick or is the seller wrong? If it comes with a 1GB stick, it would be cheaper to buy another 1GB stick than it would be to buy 4 512MB ones... so it would be great if this were true.

Another thing, I just found a review on NewEgg for a 1GB stick that says the following:

"A friend recommended this brand to me for reliability - it noticeably increased processing speed in my Powermac G4 and is working great so far. Might get another one soon."

does it matter now (since you already bought it)?

If it didn't matter, I wouldn't have spent my time asking. It matters because I want to buy more RAM before it comes, and I need to know what to buy.

Thanks.

The memory controller in that MDD G4 (or ANY G4) won't 'read' RAM chips bigger than 512MB, so he is wrong.

I was under the impression that the MDD PowerMac's memory controller could read 1GB DDR sticks, but can only read a max of 2GB. So you can use either 2x1GB or 4x512MB sticks to reach 2GB.

That's the impression I am getting from looking around on forums. I'll just have to wait and see.
