Hi guys! I'm about to buy a new MacBook which will replace my classic 2002 iMac. I've been using OS9. Now my question. Having previously worked as a graphic designer I rely and use QuarkXpress everyday. This is Quark4 which runs on OS9. I also use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop (both OS9 applications). There is no way that I can replace my QuarkXpress as it costs around £1000 for a replacement. Does the MacBook withits latest OSX automatically open into a classic9 for old applications? If not how can I get round this problem. Without it there would simply be no reason for me to upgrade to a rather sexy MacBook.
Your help please guys thank you

Classic doesn't work on Intel, unless you use something like Sheepshaver.

If you have previous (legit) copies of Photoshop and Illustrator, I'd highly recommend upgrading to CS4 (most probably Design Premium). This includes a program called InDesign, which is infinitely better than QuarkXpress in my opinion. It might be a bit pricey but it's a very sound investment - especially if you're a graphic designer - and won't be as expensive if you're upgrading from a previous version.

You can run up to OS 8 on an Intel machine with various PPC emulators. To my knowledge, no one has gotten OS 9 to work.

SheepShaver works with 9.0.4, I believe.

You're right! Disregard my previous post, I suppose.

We all call it OS X, actually. Pronounced "Oh-Ess-Ten".
There were some good games in the original Mac OS. That's a pretty good incentive... :D

Right, although of course you have to find a copy of 9.0.4 to install with it (or alternatively OS 8.x).
