WTF is up with your Shift and Delete buttons?!

They are like "different" unlike the ones shown on Apple.com

Obviously brits are illiterate :p

That, or smart enough to know what the key does to begin with lol

Just to clarify more, it is known as "eu" keyboard layout, and eu has lot of more countries than uk ;)

It is an intel one, you can tell by the iSight camera. The G5s didn't have any camera on them, they came with the intel transition.

I hate this model. I bought it as my first desktop Mac and Apple updated it to the Intel processors only a couple of months later.

I do think it is funny how people completely forget about it though. Same goes for the 24" white plastic iMac :p

1.83 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo

New Mac Mini all setup finally. Crappy pic but here it is...

http://sixpop.com/images/131513723.jpg

What I have:

Mac Mini - new base model (upgraded to 3 GB RAM)
Macbook (alum - upgraded to 3GB RAM)
I bought a 4GB RAM kit for the Mini but I split the 2GB sticks between the mini and the macbook. I was originally set on selling the Macbook but I like it too much now to sell it for a crappy netbook. :o

Dual 24" Westinghouse LCDs. - Left monitor is currently displaying my Windows gaming PC, right of course the new Mini. Mini is set to run both screens until I want to play a game. I just switch inputs on the left monitor.

Keyboard/mouse - Logitech Illuminated Keyboard + MX Revolution - I use synergy to use 1 keyboard/mouse when I have the Windows PC on to keep from having to use another setup. Works great.

Phone is a Blackberry Bold. iPhone had to go for various reasons *cough* multitasking :o

Not shown: Windows Home Server in the other corner that is currently rebooting randomly. Probably bad RAM.:mad::mad:

Yeah, too bad it doesn't have height adjustment like 99% of the other displays in that price range, not to mention most newer TN models

I choose to buy 3rd party displays so I can afford to buy :apple: computers.

I have that mouse in a box in my closet. It has a dial on the underside with a plus and a minus, moving it to plus makes the red brighter, is this sensitivity, or speed or anything, i really cant tell any difference.

Edit: it doesnt make anything brighter, my finger was getting in the way. Still, what does it do?

It's funny to me how almost all of you have the same Ikea furniture, the same computer, and the same clock screensaver. And a lot of people ask "What desk is that?" or "What desk pad is that?" or "What speakers are those?" which leads to more of you having the exact same stuff. You've seen one setup on MacRumors, you've seen them all.

carlosbutler
Mar 7, 2009, 05:33 AM
well yes you do get the same desk and things a lot, but saying that its the same computer is just stupid. even though apple dont do hundreds of computer models, thats good. and there are endless setups. ive not seen anyone with my 'setup' (iMac 24", MBP 15" 2.53, Samsung 26", PS3, Bose Companion 5 etc...). also ikea sell a lot of products, to a lot of people... you are bound to find people that have the same product, thats how a company makes money:p

I think theres something wrong with my camera :( just ignore the weird lines that go across the image. Btw, does anyone have any suggestions for an external FW800 drive that CHEAP in canada(Best buy, Future shop, tiger direct etc). The internal drive on my Powermac is 80GB. Do you think that the color of that desk is 'maple'?

But now I can't find any good desks to match with my bed.
And also, where did you get that from?

The desk is a family piece that I don't want to get rid of; I'm looking at making a new top for it so that I can add another 6" inches of depth. Other than that, I like a simple setup and it does everything I need.

Actually, the HP monitor is about two or three weeks old. I don't like taking off the stickers ;). It's a HP w2408h aka 24" monitor, sitting proudly next to the 24" iMac. Sadly it is about 1.5" too short :(.

I originally wanted a Dell 2408WFP, but wasn't able to find any decent prices on eBay and didn't want to wait 2 weeks for Dell to ship... so I picked up the HP for my MacBook. The iMac was a very unexpected purchase. $1,200 for a 2.8GHz 2008 iMac? Steal! I'm a tad sad it came in a white box instead of retail, but oh well.. I save a good ~$500.

The vx is great despite all the bad coverage they get. I've had it for just over a year and for what they cost its a great keyboard/controller.

Is it reliable enough to be used in a live situation with some VST like Omnisphere etc.?

I brought my 22inch monitor up to work because I got tired of having such a small second monitor. I generally have several instances of terminal running as well as a web browser and could really benefit from something even bigger than this 22inch monitor. Sorry for the crappy iPhone picture. When I get a digital camera that automatically sends to my Facebook or Flickr I will be tempted to use my digital camera more.

-robodude666

Isn't the stand on that HP monitor height adjustable? I have the 22incher of that series, and mine is adjustable. I'd suggest lining up the LCDs, I think it'll be much more functional and aesthetically pleasing.

I'd say so. Just leave the firmware alone on it when you purchase one as the versions that have been released by CME seem to mess the keyboard up :)

The stand is height adjustable, but it already is at the maximum height. It doesn't bother me too much, so eh. The HP is angled because it is more comfortable to use. I mostly use it for either chat, or TextMate. I just find it more comfortable to look at the left than straight on while typing. I never put a window in between, or across, both monitors so the gap or angle doesn't bother me.

Honestly....... I wish I could tell you, I asked my parents if they could pick me up a desk awhile back (maybe a year ago) and they came home with this..

If I had to guess I'd says it's from Costco or something because we don't have a Ikea near by.

FYI it came in a set of two tables, one small and one big, and one has adjustable legs.

I'll be sure to ask next time I get a chance to call my parents (it's late right now).

EDIT: Turns out I could have just looked under the desk to find out what brand it is........(silly me)
and it's is actually from Ikea, it's the "Vika Amon" series. Which is strange because we really don't have a Ikea near by but my parents do travel a lot so I guess it makes sense.

Here's a good place to start (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/range/10368/11811/)

Doubtful it will be anytime soon. Last fall they had only begun making slots in the front allowing access to release the display latch. That was a functionality aspect as well, not pure aesthetics.
And really, sloped vs. not sloped = not a big deal (for me anyway)

Hi everybody,

I've been following these threads forever and now I finally got around to take some pics of my setup...

http://home.arcor.de/durnaurion/pics/100_2505.JPG

Things I like very much:
- Managed to reduce cable mess to minimum (I don't like wireless mouse & keyboard solutions)
- Found a workable kvm switch solution between the MacBook and my PC (only used to play games)
- The bottom part of may IKEA Jonas-Hack. Turned the original small extra desk upside down and added some drawers and my little white "Game Cube" fits into the remaining space perfectly.
- Ambient lighting solution. Simply taped some christmas light under the top shelf.

Things I'd like to work on:
- Top part of the desk-hack. I's love to have the LACK shelf mounted at the wall, but it's too weak. I guess I'll have to wait until we move in fall... Unless someone else has a good idea.

im gonna ask anyway, what did u use for the ambient lighting?

I used the dioder LED strips from Ikea. They can do about 6-7 different colors and effects like transitioning. I'd recommend these if you want some nice ambient lighting.

Why does the Mini have no optical drive slot?

Since Steve taught us at the revealing of the MacBook Air that optical drives are obsolete, I thought I'd go hardcore and....

... no, just kiddin'. It's actually not a Mac Mini, but an NAS case that looks very similar plus apple sticker. :D

I use the velcro ties. I find it's much easier to move or remove things should I need to do so quickly. They also hold quite a few cables and you can get them fairly tight. $1 at our local dollar store for a pack of 8.

Thanks. Been thinking of taking them down so i can put some new pictures up. Probably when i get a new desk and i rearrange my room.

You mount the monitors upside down..

Yeah originally it was gonna be two 19's mounted up via VESA mounts but they wouldn't fit in between the shelf and so i mounted them upside down so i still had desk room under but ended up using one 19" and a 15".

It works and makes my setup unique haha.

I used to be a big fan of velcro, but velcro has drawbacks: It's expensive, if you don't cut it to size, it's bulky, and it wears out.

You can easily find 1000 zip ties for $8 or less. With proper wire snips, zip ties are fastest in my book. Using scissors or a knife with zip ties is definitely not a path to success.

I have about 100 zip ties under my desk.

I'm in the minority here, but I returned my 24" LCD for a 20" ACD. It really depends on what type of work you will be doing. If you are doing a lot of different things, need various programs running at once, then maybe 24" would suit you best. Personally, the 20" ACD is perfect for web browsing and I still get a ton done via expose (word, itunes, multiple web tabs, etc).

The downside to the zip ties is that it's slower to make any changes or additions. But I agree that they are the most secure method.

I guess it's all a matter of opinion but I would disagree with the "zip ties are slower". You have your snips...you snip the wire tie, make the change or addition, and zip on a new zip tie. The same, if not faster, than the velcro (I use both) in my experience. But, of course, you cannot reuse zip ties but, hey, they're cheap like Gordy pointed out.

Hold on, Santa Rosa is a chipset and the Nehalem is a processor; also techinically, there was never a Santa Rosa used by Apple, because to be Santa Rosa required the processor, chipset and INTEL wireless card, and Apple only use the former two.
