I use a matrox dual head 2 go for my dual displays, they offer a triple head version which gives you 3 DVI outputs where the dual head gives you 2 DVI outputs

It just spans your desktop across 2 lcds, so you don't get to have the menu bar on one screen - the menu bar is the right the way across both screens. That was a paint for me when i first bought it but i have gotten used to it. How ever if you use it with windows based environment like in VMware. There are drivers to allow you to have the true dual displays

do you have problems with pop up notifications coming in the middle of the two screens?

Yes its a bloody pain let me tell you. You try and watch a video say in VLC, it will make the video appears in the middle of the screen. So it basically over laps 2 screens

Are they blurry? Do you have a tri-pod or a shelf you can set your camera on? If you are taking your pictures from a cell phone try leaning on something to steady yourself, and the blurriness shouldn't be as harsh. :)

oo thx for the tips. Nope not from a cellphone and not blurry. Just very dull. Taking it with a point and shoot canon digicam set to "auto". Maybe it's the lighting or something i'm not sure..but i'll try putting it on a shelf like you suggested.

Well I have changed my setup quite a bit recently.
Also re arranged my room so i have all my audio eqipment near my desk ^^. Things will change again on friday as I get my B&W 685 speakers to replace the current mission 750le's.
Nothing too special...
Oh and before anyone has a go at me, I like sketching those dragons so much I just leave em where they are so if I get bored I just take out my wacom tablet and "let go" ^^
Enjoy...

Here's mine.

MacBook Pro 2,4GHz 2GB Ram 250GB HDD Unibody (Will be remplaced by Apple, the screen has light bleeding)
Wired Apple Keyboard (Love it, still has the "new" smell :D)
Cheap optical Microsoft Mouse (The Mighty Mouse sucks)
Rolodex Monitor Stand (Like it and cheap at 40$)
Sennheiser HD 202 (Awesome 40$Can headphones)

I also have a Wacom Bamboo that isn't plugged at the moment. Will be permanently plugged once I get the designated desk for my setup since this table is where I do everything, eat, work, play (I'm a student).

Wire management sucks right now, but it's a lot better since I got the stand. The majority of the wires are held in the back with plastic grip that came with the stand, awesome to keep the extension of the Magsafe at desk level and managing the ****ing long wire of the microsoft mouse.

Also do you notice a significant difference when you use those "monitor isolators" (foam under monitors) I have thought about getting them for my KRK's.

They are Yamaha HS-50M (http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-HS50M-Active-2-Way-Monitors/dp/B0017U3WD4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1239851379&sr=1-2)... they sound awesome...as for the foam, they're "Aurelex MoPADS" (http://www.amazon.com/Auralex-MOPAD-Monitor-Isolation-Charcoal/dp/B0002D0B4K)
They isolate the monitors so the sound you hear is not colored by whatever stand or desk that they rest on...(vibrations, resonance, etc.) making the monitors accurate.

THANKS :D :D Everything I've done has been a great learning curve, the project allowed me to use CS4 properly (but still basic). It's what i enjoy.
I tried to design it really functional and look appealing and minimal even with many features built in. Then I added a hint of Apple design to make it a good match to the 'lamborghini's' of the computer world.

I absolutely LOVE that integrated iPod dock on desk, and the desk itself. Want to make me one?

:D
Honestly I would love to make loads but I really don't have time or the money to invest. If I made each one myself, with the use of large CNC machines, I recon I could build one every 2 weeks doing it full time. But a lot of things I've had professionally done have been done as favors and at special prices to support my project. I wouldn't be able to get these prices again. The one I'm making now would need to be sold for a large amount that not many people would want to pay... Even if it is unique, bespoke and hand built.

I was actually discussing selling the prototype to someone on these forums but they couldn't afford it. Honestly, I can't afford it. Worked bloody hard to get where I am now with it and I don't know if I have the money to keep it or if I'll need the money for uni...

Old ...

Dell Optiplex running Vista with 2 17" acers, work laptop hooked up to Acer H233H, and MBA sharing the screen. Which is the first picture.

New!

Dell XPS Studio i7 920 with 8 GB ram, dual Acer H233H hooked up to it.
Managing screens using Ultramon, so the one on the left will go to one screen, and I can use the work laptop or MBA with the second monitor.

Using synergy across all machines with a custom built configuration loader, so I can switch configs on the fly.

Optiplex is now running Windows Server 2008 using Hyper V for 8 VM's. Usually 4 are only on one time. Machine has 1tb drive with 4 GB ram and quad core CPU.

Work Domain, so I can do a trusted domain connection inside my network
Personal Domain Controller
Exchange 2007 for my own website / for testing purposes (2VMs)
Webserver using IIS
Webserver using Apache
SQL 2005
SQL 2008

MBA is personal machine. Use it on the road and for most of my work when I am in the living room or something.

Waiting on Geek Squad, to come install two 37" tv's, run wiring from the wall to the PC for HDMI to the TV from the PC, HDMI from the server to one of the Acer monitors, and run speaker cable around the room. One TV for CNN / Headline News / Watching crap while on stupid conference calls. One for Cisco Telepresence. Work paid for one, I am paying for the other.

Laptop is now running CentOS 5 with Asterisk on it and bringing in 4 sip trunks for VoIP, 6 Polycom phones around the house with one Linksys WiFi phone.

How are you liking the 3007WFP? I just ordered a 2709W a couple days ago. Very excited.

I absolutely love it! My "finally close to where I want it" comment is because the only thing I feel like I'm missing is another one :D

It definitely makes a big difference in a lot of my workflows, especially through things like being able to get to more of my timeline in Final Cut and having quicker access to more palettes in Adobe applications.

The 2709W looks really sweet, I'm looking forward to seeing some of your photos after you get it up and running!

How do you like your Intuos 4? Is it worth it to replace my Intuos 3 and its pens?

It is great! I'm not sure about comparisons to the Intuos 3 line since I only upgraded from a Bamboo Fun Small which it clearly blows out of the water.

The customizable shortcuts with LED labels are a really fantastic feature. Through System Preferences you can assign the 8 buttons to any command/function either universally or specific to certain applications and the label you enter in SP shows up on the tablet when that application is active.

Another feature I'm really nuts about that I'm not sure is available on the Intuos 3 is the scroll ring's behavior in an application like Photoshop. It has different modes that you can toggle between by pressing the inside of the ring that will do things like zoom, change brush size, rotate canvas, etc.

It's one of the few items I've ever purchased that I've had absolutely no buyer's remorse over.

Backstory on this setup is that aside from those things underlined (purchased) or italicized (received), I have procured these items since this past Christmas. The setup is very cluttered, but there's so much out there that I want and I have a terrible time not buying everything I want. Being 16, in high school and getting $125/week for 14 hours of work makes many purchases difficult, but, I am a needy kid. I realize that the desk is very cluttered (or that is how it seems when using it physically) and that the monitor is in fact about an inch off of the desk itself, but it's what we purchased when we moved into this house (based on having a moderate-sized room with a very large bed), and I am currently looking at replacing it with a longer, flat desk (rather than this narrow, high monstrosity). Next purchases include and open-face dock for the Touch ($7; thank you DealExtreme), a Shuffle dock (got my Shuffle used and it came with no dock; $3, again from DealExtreme), a Mac Mini (sick of using my laptop as a Media Center) and possibly a MacBook, if the budget I live on can eventually afford one (I've seen last generation models used on a local swap-site for $500, which is not too bad). I'd also like to get a new set of speakers, as these aren't the best, but I can live with them (I never really had a knack for noticing minute differences in sound-quality).

I did upgrade up something like a bamboo and it does blow it out of the water.

The led thing sounds cool plus having everything on one side is great. My damn Intuos 3 has buttons on both sides which is stupid since my right hand has the pen.

I have enough for Intuos 4 but not for new pens too.

Dude, there are grown people with full-time jobs that haven't accumulated the amount of stuff that you have. That's not bad at all for a 16 year old.

Here's to hoping that the Freak Squad won't drill through electric cabling, or generally screw up like they normally do. I wouldn't trust them with a job like that!
I've had a couple of friends get their home theatre setups done by GS, and from what I've seen they're pretty good. Granted, they're different in every location and some must be better than others.

Keep the setups coming in boys. I'll be adding something to my collection soon! :)

You can count on that too, Best Buys are everywhere and they are known to be killing your competition :(. They are the Wal-Mart of electronics stores.

Tell me about it! I guess when Best Buy open their propsed 200 stores in the UK we can say goodbye to PC World! :( ...Maybe.

Yeah I will definitely post some pics once I get it, which according to Dell, should be tomorrow. I got it for pretty much half off too, which makes me even happier. :D

Why do you have 2 iMacs?
One is my sister's. It was purchased for my birthday last year, and then early this year, when the 2009 models were about to be released, my current one went on sale for $300 less; so I figured I might as well give my sister the one I was using and upgrade to a fast processor/double RAM.

Haha, I like how he says he's "needy." I think the term is "gluttonous"
Yes, you could say that. I'm a packrat, I can tell you that. My iTunes Library is about 10 times larger than it should be, because a bunch of the songs have never even been played, but I can't bring myself to delete them. Such packrattery (?) leads to the purchase of purchasing further HD's, rather than cleaning the current ones. I just suck at most things is all. Efficiency fail.

Dude, there are grown people with full-time jobs that haven't accumulated the amount of stuff that you have. That's not bad at all for a 16 year old.
Thanks, I guess. I think really looking at that list, I've only really spent about $1500 in ~4 years (on that list in particular, which is most of my purchases). I base my "I don't have much" on the kind of people I go to school with, who are super-rich and have 4 or 5 MacBooks (of varying generations) just to themselves. That and all the "junior setups" I've seen on the web seem to be so much...better.

Don't worry about those people, man. Nobody who's not doing serious computer work for a living NEEDS 4 or 5 MacBooks. It would be one thing if they had a MacBook or two, and maybe a desktop or a server for gaming/storage/backups/etc. But 4 or 5 of basically the same laptop is quite pointless for someone in your age group.

Yes it is indeed, I remember those days. I was working two jobs and living at home. Oh how I spent my money. It was during that time that I bought my MacBook, iPhone, and tons of other things. Of course, things are almost as nice now since I have a roommate and so the cost of living isn't really all that high. But I am a terrible shop-a-holic.

The menubar is huge on that monitor. I cannot see it on my PB from that far away. Why did you get the 27 inch when it is the same resolution as a 23 inch? or a 15 inch if it is a laptop?

I got it mainly as an "all-in-one", since I use my PS3 with it too, and 23-24 would have been too small, and I did not want to get a 30 because of the high resolution, I did not want it to mess up my console gaming by scaling it, not to mention having to also buy a Dual-Link DVI adapter. Also, when I bought it, it was 50 bucks CHEAPER than the Ultrasharp 2408WFP. I got the 2709W for $550 CAD. I was actually not that far from the monitor when I took the photo, maybe 5-6 feet. Text and stuff is bigger obviously, but I really like it. And I got the 13" Macbook solely because of the size, I carried around my cousin's MBP for a while, and it was too big/heavy for me to carry all day long.

How do you like that monitor? I am thinking of getting one, but I am not sure if itīs so good, because I have IPS-monitors right now.

Well, I did a lot of research, and for what I planned to do with it, it was perfect. Obviously there is going to be a downgrade in image quality if you are used to IPS panels, although I was reading around that people are getting very accurate prints using this monitor.

Well I guess it helps that I have perfect vision up close. Far off is another story though. I wish resolution independence worked better then I would have a 1920*1200 screen. The best I can do is 1680*1050 (built in screen is 15 inch 1280*854) with a VNC hack. I VNC my PB (which is at the login screen) with my dad's 15 inch Core 2 Duo dell (that I use more than he does) to my user account with the resolution changed once I connect. The only 3 things the dell is missing that I want is Mac OS X, 1680x1050-1920x1200 screen and a Backlit Keyboard.

A couple months back my wife got a new macbook and I took her old iMac. I have a unibody macbook pro so I don't really need a desktop but it is handy to leave on 24/7 for downloading, using the remote application on our phones (we have an airport express or apple tv in all the main rooms and bedrooms), and using it for basic stuff like e-mail and the internet. When I have to work from home I typically use my laptop but sometime I use the iMac along with it because of the dual screens (it really helps in my field).

In other rooms there are 4 airport expresses (office, guest room, dining room, garage) and two apple TVs (living room, bed room).

Lol, yeah it kind of does. I just mounted it last night. Before I got the iMac I had the ACD on the desk and would put my laptop on the side on a griffin elevator, but when I got the iMac I put the ACD on the side and it was too low. That put me over the edge for mounting it. I can sit in my recliner (to the left of the ACD) and just turn it that way and use teleport to control it from my laptop.

I love how you positioned your ACD. Looks really nice.

Nothing too special, but I like it:

uMBP, 20" LG LCD, Logitech MX518, Audioengine 2 speakers
500GB Seagate FreeAgent Pro hiding behind the MBP
80GB iPod classic, 8GB iPod touch 2G
Xbox 360 under the desk

Nice i use one too on my MBP with the dual displays. it works well. Mine is the digital edition also

I had issues getting to work originally - it would only work at 3360x1200, not the 3360x1050 I needed. I had to use SwitchResX to customize the v-sync to 59.9hz, otherwise it wouldn't work.

I ordered some ambient lighting for my desk - so I'll post pics when I get that set up.

Thanks, but I'm not able to find it there.

I moved to Greece, from Florida, last year. All my stuff was there. I just got my desk that I had from there, and my 20: iMac. I am still waiting for:

my iphone dock/usb hub
stereo setup
belkin n router
Logitech MX revolution

In the somewhat near future, Im gonna upgrade to a new 24" iMac with the wired keyboard, since I still use the number pad.

OT: If anyone has a link or information on how to set up a home network (file transfering between the 2 macs, and my PS3), I would greatly appreciate it. I cannot find any information about how to do it. Im running off of a wireless DSL router (16mb/s) btw.

Dude that is an amazing amount of stuff.

I can't wait to get mine up and going. I'm going to get a desk (from Ikea obviously) soon and try to emulate some of these since they're so cool. I never realized there were so many people with style out there.

Very nice! Apple (or a third party) should offer a version of the 24 ACD stand that brings the monitor up to the same height as the iMac. It would be a niche market, but I think most of the people on this thread would at least buy it if they had a 24" ACD and an iMac.
