I'm really in two minds about this. The Angel Of The North is a fantastic piece of art and really has come to symbolise the area, but this I'm less sure of. It's just a giant horse. Still, might well give people on the Eurostar trains something to look at/laugh about...

It's just a giant horse.

Indeed, not much point to it.

Will Essex respond by having a huge blinged up Jeep?

I should think one huge white patent leather stiletto would better suit.

Unbelievably stupid waste of money.

Who wants to see a giant horse? I just don't get it.

Watch the video (half way down the page) of the artist being interview.

I personally think he has no idea what he is talking about and somehow lucked in to getting the commission.

It would be much better if it was rearing, wild-eyed and windswept.

Comme ci??No, nothing like that. I had in mind more of a Jacques David effort, sans Bonaparte, of course.

You'd have all the Japanese tourists stroking its testicles.

That would make an excellent gameshow in Japan.

It does look a bit docile. I can't say I'm that impressed.

What is the point? I don't care if he won a turner prize, its just a horse! You cant inject culture simply by saying "yeah, lets build a big sculpture for loads of cash."

Why don't they put something representative of Britain there, for all the people entering on the eurostar, like a giant stella can.

I hope someone steals it.

No, I was talking about Man, the species (as was iJohnHenry) not a particular man. Perhaps I should not have deleted the second sentence I originally had: "when horses pay, they get to choose the pose". I didn't want to cross from intended repartee to a possible unintended sleight (kind of like when "fixed it for ya" is used instead of adding an alternate twist on the words as a standalone reply - aka repartee).
