Can I use it to re-install the OS on another Macbook Pro or is the install disc that comes with the MacBooks specific for each one?

It's specific to each one, I think.

You could try. However, it wouldn't be right as the disc are machine specific. BTW, where are your back-up discs?

I did some more searching and found some more info about it. I'm rebuilding a friends macbook pro but he is having some issues finding his restore discs.

You can always get the restore disks from Apple for a small fee. Using your disk on another system is against the EULA.

The discs aren't "machine specific," but more "model specific" if I remember correctly.

I don't think it will work, unless if you're trying to restore it. It might work, but I'm not sure cause the CD label says the specific model of your computer.
