DFU Necessary for JB 2.1->2.2? [solved]

Title says it all: do I actually need to put the iPhone into DFU mode before upgrading from jailbroken 2.1 to a jailbroken 2.2 firmware, or can I just option-click restore in iTunes?

And on a related note, restoring from backup only restores audio, video, apps, and data, not firmware, right?

Thanks muchly, between upgrading to 2.1 and the 2.2 release, I bought a Unibody MBP, and I was a little wary of putting the phone in DFU mode, even with the 10.5.5 kexts.
