I have an offer to trade my 17"mbp or a new alu 2.0 macbook. I bought the 17"mbp I had to always work away from my desk and wanted alot for screen space, now that I bought a mac pro, I wanted something smaller to carry around. I was just wondering if this was a good deal.

My 17" MBP
2.33ghz
3gb ram
160gb HDD
256mb vram
applecare

Macbook
2.0ghz
4gb ram
160gb hdd
+200 cash

you you think this is a good trade?

I think it depends on how important it is to you to have a smaller notebook. Spec wise it isn't worth it though.

It's not that important but having an extra 200 would be nice, seeing I could use it to upgrade my mac pro.

I'm have to give it some pondering.

Are you serious? If they were giving you 400 cash i'd think about it, but for 200? no way! You seriously want to give up a dedicated graphics card, far higher quality screen, and higher build quality for that? I hope you dont enjoy playing games.

He's already got a Mac Pro - he probably doesn't need tons of power on the laptop. I'm generally a proponent of the powerful desktop + small & cheap laptop approach, so I understood the OP's position. That said, however, I think the economics here of trading a 17" MBP for a 13" MB doesn't make it worth it.

I don't play games buy if I did, I would play them on my mac pro. But, Thanks.

Are the new Alu Macbooks not built as good? didn't know that!

I think the build quality comment was simply based on going from MBP to MB - the build quality of any of the new Alu MB(P)s is great, as far as I've seen (beats the heck out of the old plastic MBs, that's for sure).

Nono the build quality on the new Alu Macbooks is great, i mean the quality of the parts, between the Macbook and the Macbook Pro has a big difference, screen etc.

I just asked him to add more cash, so if he does I'll do it but if not, I'll keep it either way I'll be happy.

Thanks everyone!!!!!
