How come when you put in a cd-r/rw, then if it's a 650MB, the computer only thinks it can store ~620 and same for a 700MB'er? If you use other programs, does it do the same thing?

I don't think Disk Copy can do 700 meg discs... don't ask me why...

You can only fit 620 on a 650 because of all the other data written to the CD (which your computer needs in order to read and understand the CD). That's what 'preparing' and 'closing' a CD does.

Really? I didn't know that, thanks for the info.
Hard to beleive it needs 30Mb of other data to be able to read and understand the disc.

Disc Burner is BS!! i'm fed up with it and i'm going to get Toast. hopefully that will be alot better.

and why the hell does it stuff around with preparing the disc and all that? and when i put a CD-RW in it only thinks it's a CD-R. how stupid is that??!!!

in Nero on my PC all you do is put a blank CD in, select the files to burn, and then burn the thing! how simple is that!!??? and you can burn a full 700MB CD. what the???..... 30MB just to read and understand a CD?!!! that really sucks. i just hope Toast is as good as Nero

Toast is very good, infact, I think it's the best burning app around for OSX, you won't regret it.
I've never even used the built in disc burner, I've allways used Toast.

You have to keep in mind that you're comparing a multi-function, free, built-in app to a specialised CD burning app.

Once you get Toast, then you can complain about how it doesn't stack up to Nero (it does fall behind in some areas). Until than, just be happy you can burn CDs at all :)

On another note, does anyone know if Toast 5 Ti can burn CD-TEXT? And if it can, is the SuperDrive (140) capable of handling it? I remember my old burned didn't support it...

Toast is great. At least I think so, I've never owned any other burning software besides Toast and Disburner.

Just one tip, in the main window, there are four buttons. The last one other, click and hold on it and it will display a menu.

I never found that out until much much later...

I didn't know that? What options does it bring up in this menu?

No, I don't think it can. Is there is a CD burner that can?

yeah, i see your point. the CD burner that comes with Win XP is pretty dodgy.

Yeah, disc burner is a god compared to that thing. Plus you get to look at a cool icon in the dock!

Just out of curiousity, how does Nero stack up to Toast?

I knew a few people would miss this, just as I first did...

Sorry I replied so late, but someone has nicely put a screenshot.

The DVD function works well for files. I've tried it with Disc burner & toast. With both i've gotten the same results. However I have never tried with a video_ts file, and could not tell you if it would work in a DVD player.

I've just had a look at the roxio website and I can't see it either, I think I got my update to 5.1.3 off Limewire ;)

Toast has a wierd website for upgrades. After many hours of reasearch I finally got it.

After that experience a few months ago, I don't think I wanna do it again.

Same with Connectix, they have a horrible support site. Can't be bothered to do it again.

Remind me later, and I'll look into it. In the worst case I can send my copy to you.

Yeah it's nice,

But sometimes, you want to do it the old fashioned way to procrastinate (hope all of you can understand that because I don't think I spelt that right). Sometime it's fun. But most of the time I upgrade right away, using the link from macminute or macnn, to download it straight away (that sentence was 100% redundant).

(mind the grammatical and spelling errors). It's only a draft ;)
