I've been messing around with Beejive and backgrounder and it seems to work fine by keeping me online. The only problem is I never get alerts when someone sends me an IM. I have to launch the actual program and then all the missed IMs come flooding in. If I launch Beejive then press the sleep button my phone will vibrate on incoming msg, but what's the point of backgrounder if I don't get any type of IM alert? I have the reminder app as well, which is suppose to show an alert icon next to the battery indicator, but that doesn't show either until I launch Beejive and it catches up.

Once you lock the screen, the iPhone's network connection will only stay active for about 15 minutes, that's why you dont get any new messages.

You can install insomnia from cydia to keep your connection going longer if you wish.

Or you can have the app running in the background constantly with Backgrounder. You will relive notifications :D

I'm using backgrounder as it is and I don't get notifications. I'll try insomnia. Thanks.

edit: still not getting any notification of IMs unless Beejive is open.
edit2: nevermind i think i got it working.

If you keep the app running in the background constantly with Backgrounder/Insomnia, do you notice a significant drop in battery life?

Its significant.. The only way to save up on battery to have bejive send notifications of the message.. There was a proposed way but I haven't tried that yet. Also backgrounder IMO slows down the phone

Just set beejive to text message you (if you have text messaging). Put your push email addy in as this: 9999999999@txt.att.net (if you are on ATT). Obviously the 9's would be your phone number.

thanks for the replies.

I just got my iphone a few days ago. Loving it.

Jailbreaking seems interesting, but I think I will wait a week or so and get used to the normal functions. Though some of the apps on cydia are very tempting.
