Just bought a brand new Imac 20". Just wondering what the installation disks are used for? Aren't the basic programs already installed on the machine? Ie... I life09,Leopard,Etc...

Yes they are already installed. But they are useful if you need to reinstall for any reason.

You're best to reinstall the software when you get it. That way you can go to custom installation and remove the 3gb of printer drivers and 1gb+ of other languages that you probably won't need.
