I'm considering the Apple Cinema 24" LCD for my MacBook. It's a big expense and I know there are cheaper TN options, but I'm wondering how long it will last. $1000 over five years seems much more reasonable. Do you think this monitor has a five year life-span?

Of course. It is LED backlit too, and the LED's have a life span of up to 100,000 hours.

I suppose it depends on if things fail after three. I'd say given Apple's QC it's very possible, but the panel should last for 5 years.

You mention three. Is there 3 year warranty on it?

One year.

3 year with AppleCare (£££).

Yes - it's just that you can't extend it past three.

It is as good today as it was when I brought it back in 2003. I also have an aluminum-framed 23" Cinema Display at work. It is as good today was it was when I bought it back in 2005. If past is prologue, then you should expect similar service from your new 24" Cinema Display.

I picked up a 24 inch LED ACD but I did not get Applecare ($100 USD).

Would you recommend it? I have it on both my laptops, but didn't really think it would be necessary for what's really just a screen.
