The past few months macrumors has gained many new members, many of which have missed out on a lot of discussions. Some of us have been here for a pretty long time now and have gotten to know each other more personally than expected, but some recent events have seemed to create a wall between those who are longer standing & those who are still a bit newer to the community.

So to try and bridge the gap a bit, I decided to create a new thread on an old topic. For anyone who wants to participate, why don't u give a brief bio so that everyone can see who u are and hopefully get to know some of u better. Last week's good intentions created more heat & annoyance than anything else, so hopefully we can fix it by acting like one community again rather than one group against another...

I'll start off:

I'm 24 years old, live in New Orleans, Production Artist for a printing company, amateur photographer, and I've been a member of macrumors for about a year & a half now... :D

Hello!
My real name is Jamie, I am 18 (and a half :)) and live in on the outskirts of London, England.
Since the age of 16 I have worked in Morgan Stanley, Canary Wharf in an IT Support role...sadly supporting around 8,000 peecees, as you can imagine, it keeps me busy! Damn m$ & compaq :p
I was first into PC's when I was around 13-14, and have only fairly recently (around a year) 'discovered' the wonder of the Mac, and I must say I'm loving it so far :D
Well, that about it, that's me

Hello all
I just signed up today, but have been a Mac faithful since college (class of '90 - yikes, that makes me the oldest in this thread of those who've mentioned age so far!)

I'm an Obstetrician by day (and night :) ), and at other times a saxman by night. I live in the 'burgh as well, but I'm getting ready to move cross country to N. Cali to work for the Air Force. Actually I won't be too far from One Inifinity Loop - maybe I'll get to see the big man himself someday!

I run an old iMac DV 400MHz and a Pismo 500 MHz - bidding my time for a move to a G4 or better?????

Hi,
I'm a 25 year old Data- Junkie. I'm doing Architectural drafting currently but don't let that fool you. I've sold tropical fish, worked for a mac-only retailer, done the video rental gig, done the specialty coffee gig, I've done a lot of Theatre tech in Lighting, sound, stagecraft and makeup design. I've been using Macs exclusively for over 10 years and loathe the idea of using Wintel by choice. I've learned to be a VERY compitant Mac-techie in the last 3 years and I can troubleshoot most issues.

I'm currently working with Dukestreet, Teabgs, D0ct0rteeth, Eyelikeart and others on an online Gaming concept that can be found at www.crystalspheres.net

I'm hoping to get the game up and making money so we can all retire to Kauai and do game sysop work from hammocks via TiBook and Airport. ;)

There may be some time spent in San Diego first but we'll see! :D

Oh, I've been on the boards for about a year and I've been studying Apple's design strategy from VERY close to Cupertino for about 3 years.

Ok, let me see if I have this straight. The reason you don't have a larger MP3 collection is because you don't have time to "rip" legal copies of music that you purchased in a lawful manner, or because you don't have enough bandwith to download copies of music you don't lawfully own???

Well my real name is John, I'm 24 (25 in mid August). I've been doing DTP since I was around 19 but since something fell through late last year I've just been doing agency work (boring office jobs mainly). I pretty much got into the mac for the fact Atari died off and there's no way in hell I was getting anything that runs on windows, plus my DTP career and interest in music pretty much makes me a mac guy for life really.

As far as where I live, well I think being a small ish village I'm giving too much away but I will tell you the only generally interesting thing about living there apart from fact it's fairly hassle free is the fact they've been keeping me awake all summer since i was about 8 years old making the Eurofighter Typoon (http://www.eurofighter.com/intro.asp). I've seen it change from being a wide winged blue and white plane called the EAP to a sleek grey one called the EFA. My old highschool we're chosen to come up with a name for the production version by BAE systems. The airstrip runs the whole length of the village so it can be noisy as hell sometimes. If you're an aircraft enthusiast, you'd love it living here.

As far as other stuff I'm into, well musically I'm quite into electronic or at least "Original" music mainly, BT, Hybrid, Dave Angel, Carl Craig countless other dance producers, Pink Floyd, Rage Against The Machine, NIN, Portishead, Massive Attack, Red Delicious (New band from the US, going to be huge I think). I've got pretty eclectic tastes really. I don't really have too many hobbies that arn't related to either music or graphics so apart from that.

BT is one man...Brian Transeau...quite honestly, and in my own humble opinion, a musical genius. He's studied classical music since he was a kid, and now writes his own music as well as music scores for movies (Go, Gone in 60 Seconds), is a killer DJ, and has worked with a ton of artists including Peter Gabriel & Tori Amos just for examples. He's got a ton of stuff out there, but what made him into more of a household name was his 2000 release called "Movement in Still Life." It's a great album, and if u are interested in him u should definitely own it.

Mcrain- Look @$$hole the gov't has openly said that they will not charge people for pirating/ stealing electronic goods over the internet (sw, music, etc...) unless they try to sell it. And u can't charge them anyways because of the internet rights act of 95' which states that Gov't offcials or appointes can't enter servers or websites that have something saying ur not welcome and it's a private backup server. So if u come after me or anybody else here w/ ur f'ed up attitude I'll have twenty G.P. f'in lawyers on u.

However, I think I know Mcrain well enough to know (albiet, not VERY well) that he can be very serious, especially when it concerns the American Government and its practices. I remember a tax discussion a while back that had everyone heated as well.

Besides, if he WAS kidding, he should indicate in some way he is joking (smiley face maybe?) because his comments could easily be taken out of context.

We dont need an Uncle Sam baby-sitter in here, and he did come off pretty rude.

Anyway, whatever. Sorry for flying off the handle. Its just that people with a 'little bit' of power can sometimes be irritating because they feel like they have keep everyone 'in check.'

I've worked for an Apple Reseller, but the people were the dullest, weirdest freaks I've ever met, so I moved on. I'm about to start a job part-time with a company here in Melbourne called Coz We Can, doing sys admin and random trouble shooting type stuffs.

I've been a member here for 6 months or so. You may know me from such escapades as my 'hardcore' avatar series. If you like it, please send me a dollar. I am buying a new digital camera and will soon be broke, so you can send me two dollars if you really want to help. :D If you want to help in a non-monetary fashion, you can PM me any word that rhymes with 'porn' so I can use it in my series.

If you don't like my 'hardcore' avatar series, but would like to send a donation anyway, please feel free. Please note, however, that you will have to send an extra $5 as a fine for not liking my work.

At this point, I'd just like to add that if you are ever not sure whether to laugh at one of my posts or not, you should always laugh. I'm not here to offend anyone... I leave that for other times.

OK I feel like you all know me well enough now so I'll leave you alone.

Hi there,

I've been around here for a year now (I see that's longer than most of the people here), but I don't post much (I recently got my 100th post - I really don't have much time to post a lot).
I'm also willing to buy a mug :D

Well... who am I? I'm a - erm - 22 year old Belgian guy, who graduated two years ago as computer scientist. Since then I have been working at the central computing centre of the K.U.Leuven (http://www.kuleuven.ac.be/english/) (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven = Catholic University of Leuven).

I have worked all my life with PC's, and I still do. I work with PC's still 80% of my time. But I always sympathised with the Mac-platform, ever since I was a 15-year old boy and learned to know there were other things besides intel 386's.
I am the one who brought official Mac support to our university, and now I have a Mac on my desk for 1,5 years now. 8 months ago, I took the big step, and I bought my own iBook, and I love it. I also have an iPod, which I adore.

In 'normal life' I like to make a lot of fun. A have a little band, called 'The James Band'. And I have a lovely girlfriend, called Eveline.

Oh yeah... my name is Karel. That's Dutch for Charles :D And I want to start another PDA thread!

See ya around!

Being a frequent user of LimeWire I noticed many of AVI format movies. I tried to play them using QT5 and that stupid Divx player for Mac OS 9(Divx Doctor I think) - neither worked.

So my question is: Does QT6 (Preview or release) support AVI format movies? If not, what is a good program to use for AVI movie playback?

:p :p :p :p :p

my gawd !!!! ........looks like I am the Daddy here

well.....age (I'm 54) hasn't stopped me from jumping into the unknown, so 33 yrs ago I left Switzerland (my home country) for Scottland, working there for one sommer season, then on to Denmark for 7 1/2 yrs and then on december 24. 1980 to South East Asia with no confirmed job and my former job/appartment/furnitures etc. given up or sold.

My profession is Chocolatier-Pastry Chef.

6 day's later I started working in Manila (Philippines) as a Pastry Chef in 5 Star Hotels where I stayed on for 10 yrs.

In the same time I started to learn Yoga (1985)

Then I moved on to Singapore for 3 yrs and after a short stint (1 1/2 yrs) to Penang (Malaysia) returned back to Singapore.

Now I am the R&D manager for a local company making Swiss Pralines, made with Lindt Chocolate and therefore the same quality you can get in Switzerland.

Why am I on macrumors ?

After having used different computers in my office, about 2 yrs ago I bought my own G4/533 Mhz that finally made me having fun using a computer, so when the iMac 800 came out, I was one of the first to get one.

And the fun hasn't stopped ! :D

Ok, let me see if I have this straight. The reason you don't have a larger MP3 collection is because you don't have time to "rip" legal copies of music that you purchased in a lawful manner, or because you don't have enough bandwith to download copies of music you don't lawfully own???

Remember KC, this is a public site, and there are people here, there, everywhere that might have nefarious goals.

I'm a government agent. There might be others who prosecute that type of crime.

There's a reason Arn bans any warez, pirating comments on these boards.

Please censor yourself in the future regarding this topic.

Ok, I've got to respond. I quoted myself because it seems to me that there are some people who like to get mad about something without first reading what was said.

1. I never said ripping mp3's is bad or I disagree with it

2. Arn does have a policy on these boards that we are not to talk about warez and pirating stuff (and it's his board, I just live here) You should respect his rules or find another playground IMHO.

3. My department has for years never prosecuted people for ROT vs. SOT tax collection mistakes, but, suddenly, with a change of administrations and different financial needs, decided to. That being said, I never said the gov't was coming, but that it would merely be a prudent policy not to flaunt illegal activities in public.

4. If you want to rip songs, fine, just why on earth would you talk about it first, in a place where you aren't supposed to, and second, in public where anyone can overhear you and potentially put yourself at risk.

Oh, one more thing. I went to U of Michigan, and I've worked with attorneys from Gross Pointe, and they are no different than any other attorneys. Most are very good, but they are still just normal guys and gals who happen to be lawyers. If you honestly think that you're better than someone because of where you live, then you're a fool.

Oh, BTTM, you're right. I am pretty much tongue in cheek, but this time, I wasn't condemning any behavior, just merely saying that if you want to talk about your conduct that is illegal, you shouldn't do it on Arn's boards because he doesn't want you to, and it is a public board.

I NEVER RIPPED ON THE GUY, JUST SAID BE CAREFUL AND FOLLOW ARN'S RULES. Geez people, read the words that are coming out of my mouth!

i'm a senior in high school and have been using macs for about 2 years now (my first mac was a powerbook g3 and now i'm hoping to get a powerbook g4)

i'm an avid web designer and an aspiring designer (i try to work with print, web, and video programs as much as possible) and hate programming (although i still try to program as much as possible... i love the torture i suppose)

currently i work at a school district as a technician for minimum wage... i am forced to maintain about 300 pc's during the summer with a few other techs (we're hoping to eventually get a few macs but the current administration is anit-mac)

my ultimate dream/goal right now (besides a tibook) is going to college at berkeley... but so far i don't think i can afford it :(

That's just it. Its not your place to tell people what to post. Its what I said before--people who know the law or have a little bit of power always sit around "warning" everyone about their behavior. Its annoying. Its just like those kids in elementary school who sit around and say:

I never insinuated that you were tunring anyone in. Just cool down the bossy approach.

UGH! All we was trying to do was let the person know that Arn doesn't like that. Have yo never done that? I know that I have. I know that most of us have. Whether you like it or not, it is illegal, and personally I don't care. Thus, I use my own moral judgement to make my decision.

Point is, it wasn't an attack, it wasn't him being big brother, it wasn't an insult to you. It was him just being a responsible member of the forums. Please lets get over this before Alpha gets in on this. :p

Exactly, which is why I said anything at all. If you are a newer member, you should know that Arn does have his rules, and they include a prohibition on the discussion of Warez. He has that rule so that he can cover his own butt, too.

As for being bossy, or you getting annoyed that someone tells you what the rules are, if you are breaking them, you have no right whatsoever to say anything.

That's like a burglar bitching because the owner of the house he's robbing tells him to leave. "Shut up, and stop being so bossy, I can break the law all I want to, and you're just being a ninny."

What a crock.

I'll tell you what, let's get Arn over here and see what he says. My guess is he says stop discussing warez and pirating.

(edit) One more thing: I just said in my original post that Arn has a rule, that this is a public site, and that he PLEASE be careful and censor himself. If that's bossy, then you're awfully sensitive

hi everyone, I'm Will

I live on a small island off the south coast of England, its called the Isle of Wight. (They wanted to call it the isle of Man but that already existed and Wight is ancient speak for Man apparently)

Anyway, I was born a few months after the whole mac phenomena began! My dad ran a business at the time and they used Apple II's, Lisa's. Shortly after my birth my father enlisted the help of his friend Pete to advise him on setting up a new computer system in the office! Pete advised getting something called an Apple Macintosh. You couldn't buy these very easily in this country at the time, so my dad ordered a load through Pete who knew where to get them. Dad's mate pete then went on to set up the UK's first Mac Dealership. They still sell amcs too, problem is no-one on this island even knows waht a mac is so peecee dominance is more abundant here than many other places.

Back to Me.

Now I'm 17 and have two more exams left until I finish School forever. I'm going to UNI in September to study Music Systems Engineering. This brings me along to my main obsession, Music. I play guitar, Saxaphone and piano and am in a sort of band with a few mates. I also reguarly play around with Cubase and soon i'd like to post some of my songs on the internet when i get round to it. (Go to the student bar at LMH, Oxford University and you'll find my bro playing my songs as background music) he he

actually don't cos he might thinks its a little wierd all these ppl turning up for no reason.

sort of music I like is HUGELY varied. For years I was obssessed with Radiohead. Now i just love em as one of my Fav bands. I also love Gomez (british band that is less famous than they should be) portishead, Air, Kid Loco, daft Punk, Aim, røyksopp, Nightmares on Wax, right through to Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Ben Harper, Jeff Buckley, and i LOVE jazz. Louis Armstrong is genius, I love 70's funk soul and Rythm and Blues. Oh i forgot to mention Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan. The there's Aphex Twin, Breakbeat Era, and i think i meantion Kid Loco already but I really think its amazing. Oh yeah, I love old skool hip/hop, like arrested development and sugar hill, Jurassic 5 etc etc etc. I could go on and on and on and on and on. Myabe i should start with things I don't like. I really hate tacky pop bands and any kind of "Nu-Metal" in fact anything with "Nu" in fron tof it really sucks! And I'm frankly bored of grunge. If anybody wants to suggest anything else that i might like then feel free, he he. I probably missed loads!

any way thats enough for now, i hope to participate more on these boards (my posts so far seem to get resolved by myself before i get any answers), when i get a new G4 to replace my steam powered beige G3, I cleaned out the cylinders with a sonnet G4 zif brush whichdid a lot to improve things. Just need to shovel in some more lumps of RAM to keep her going.
:( :o ;)

I'm 27 years old guy, from Venezuela, my real name is Reinaldo Antonio Jesus Enrique de la Torre, or Rei, sometimes in the US only Re.

I'm a VJ, I worked with digital audio, midi and a lot of sound desing and composing for about 10 years, then I jumped in to web desing and now I'm in video composing/ editing.

May be next week I'm gonna be in the gerrillas attacking our actual president or lets say it... or new comunist dicator just like Fidel Castro is. Right now we are a blink of an eye distance from civil war. But for now, I'm only a VJ freak.

i live in melbourne, australia. i'm just 24.
my mac fetish is growing to uncontrollable proportions, due to my various jobs - i'm a web, book and magazine designer and editor, occasional musician, and activisit - and the mac helps in all these areas. i'm also a lesbian and a west wing fan.

i love music, particularly jazz. (any of you US dwellers seen a band called Medeski Martin and Wood? I'd love to know what they're like live.)

i've been a mac person for almost my entire life , and my mission is to convert others...

Well, as my unoriginal name suggests, I’m Mike O’Neill. I’m 14 and live in both Dallas, TX and Aspen, CO. I’ve worked for the technology department at my middle school in Dallas, and hopefully will get a real job at my high school in the IT department. I’m also an amateur photographer, I enjoy producing/creating complex, loop-based music whenever I get the chance (hardly ever), and I love to hike/ski/bike when I’m in Aspen.

Unfortunately, I don’t yet own a Mac!! Every day I wish that my VAIO laptop (albeit a great computer) would break so that I have an excuse to buy a new PowerBook! I’ve also got 2 fairly new Dells, and I wish a most unhappy, fiery death to them both ;)

Now I’ve got an interesting new project: we just found my sister’s old PowerBook 180c, and up until this point we’d completely forgotten we had a Mac…I'll soon be relying on ya’ll for some help, since there are quite a few problems, and the mouse hardly works  !!!

Yoga only got me realy interested when I was already 38 yrs old.
So...Chocolate was first.

After having tasted all the sweet things ( ;) ) that life has to give (and believe me, I enjoyed it) and been around a bit, my need and desire to learn something, that could give me some answers to questions I kind of had ever since I was a child, became very strong.

The stupidity of my view of life (and that of most people) became so obvious that I needed something that could increase the quality of my life.

And it did.
And I enjoy life even more....although in a more subtle way :)

I am Kethoticus of Borg. Your life, as it has been, is over. From this time forward, you will service us.

Resistance is futile. Your archaic culture is authority-driven. I will be used by the Borg to aid our introduction into your society.

But when I'm not out assimilating cultures and civilizations, I do 3D graphics for a living, having moved from NYC to LA to get into the digital effects business. I've apparently succeeded. My only worry now is being able to remain in the field and grow as a successful digital artist. There are many challenges in this job, like learning Maya on the fly and getting the work done quickly. Possible long-range career goals include creating dynamic, powerful Christian movies (no, not the typical rehashings of Bible stories).

I'm 37, technically single, but seriously involved with a beautiful young woman who also lives here in LA (another reason I left NY).

I have varied interests, including 80s wave/alternative music, astronomy, science fiction, computer art, digital video editing, movies, sports (Yankees, Rangers, Jets), anything outdoors and being physically active.

I'm a born-again Christian, which is actually redundant when using my definition of "Christian". I believe that to be a Christian, i.e., a disciple of Jesus, you need to be born again--a spiritual birth, following, naturally, our physical birth. This was commanded by Jesus in the gospel of John, verse 3:3.

I have owned 3 Macs in my lifetime, the first being a IIcx, the second a Rev B iMac (geez I miss my little turquoise "Mothra"), & the latest is my B&W 350MHz G3. I also own an ancient Indigo 2 Extreme, which I've used to study Softimage|3D with in order to prepare me for my career goals. (I'd love to dump this now, but it's so old, and I've had little success in trying to sell either the machine or the Softimage license.)

My materialistic ambitions include a hi-powered Mac (for personal DV editing projects), a hi-powered PC (for studying various 3D apps), and a telescope for stargazing in the great southern CA desert.

Hope that wasn't too short!

I go away for a few days and miss all of the fun! Well here I go...

I've been a member for almost a year now, and I lurked for a few months prior to that. My post count is low, however, as it is limited by school, work, extra curriculars, and a distinct inability to be helpful as often as I'd like. ;)

I'm a 22 year old college student at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama. I'm currently pursuing a dual degree in Political Science and Marketing, and I'm minoring in Spanish. I'm a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, president of the College Democrats, and an SGA senator. I also wait tables at night and on the weekends, and I'm involved in our governor's re-election campaign on a volunteer basis.

My first Mac is this BEAUTIFUL G4 Cube sitting on my desk, and I love it. I'll never go back! As I'm a student, I'm thinking of upgrading her to 1 GHz or (*crosses fingers*) dual 800s instead of springing for a brand new machine. Oh, and a GeForce3. Why all this upgrading? Because I've recently become infatuated with web design. I'm looking to learn everything I can about it in the hopes that I can make a viable career out of it. Trying to do what Joseph Campbell said and "follow my bliss". :)

Anyway, that's about it. I'd love to go on into turn ons, turn offs, and measurements, but then this might turn into a playmate data sheet. I don't think anyone wants that. ;)

Yeah I know what you mean. I had no problems buying hardware and such but it took me a long time to get up the nerve to stop being a virtual company and lease the office. I guess it was the commitment thing, but very scary.

I only did it because at the time there were a lot of companies that would not hire me simply because I had no office.

it comes down to a perception...like when i want to get my car fixed, i go to a garage even though i know good mechanics who work from their home or come to your place with their tool van

when i want my teeth cleaned, i go to the dentist's office

and since us IT people are in the service industry, we too need a home base like an office or store that the average customer can drop in on five or six days a week nine to five...or even come in just off the street with a computer issue

i know that getting a place with curtail net profit for up to five years or more, but since i have done all my other work with full commitment, i should probably do the same for a computer repair business

in the small town where i live south of san jose, there are already a few good repair houses and they are all retail stores except for one and every place will build a machine on the fly for anybody and offer some sort of service agreement

the top store in our area is owned by a trust fund millionaire man who has his phd in computer science, his mcse, and his license as a microsoft solutions provider...so i know i can't go head to head against him with no money, an mcp, and some grad school under my belt

when i get my master's and mcse (that should give me a leg up for the govt accts and educational accounts), i will still need to have the capital to hold me thru the slow times and this competitor goes months without a net profit since he has a fairly large employee base but his millions keep him afloat as other less well endowed businesses go out when their five year lease is up

the other long standing business is owned by a self taught computer guy but he seems to have the capital from his successful commercial fishing business

i have an ok gardening and landscaping business to fall back on for funds so i see that as a plus

i am already 38 and only plan to continue the full on career grind until i am 55...besides hs and college, i have worked since i was 14 so working full on til 70 is not my thing...i will sell the business and retire

around here, small businesses like to put in 100 hours a week and becoming rich is their goal...not with me...i like a career and money, but not to the point of being a workaholic so i have thought about taking the easy way out and just continuing on as a on call network engineer for IT placement firms and having only a 40 hour gig

but i studied too hard in school with certs, degrees, and working knowledge to let someone else take the profit...i have a friend that worked for dell on an 80-20 arrangement (standard for this area) where he took the 20 percent and dell took the rest

so wish me luck as a proper IT business owner ready to make the jump from being a virtual business

Absolutely the best of luck to you.

This is a little OT for the thread but I have a quick question for you. How important are the certs where you are? I had to do the MCSE thing because I do some PT training at the local College and they demanded it. However, NONE of my industry clients ever ask about it and I know that the vast majority of them have no idea certification even exists. Just curious.

it's funny that you mention that...degrees and certs don't mean a lot to my bread and butter business in the small town where i live...the individuals and small businesses

and they have not ever heard of an mcse at all or a master's in telecommunications management in WAN technologies...he he

the degrees and certs help for my own knowledge and getting some govt and educational accounts which don't pay well but help in the long run in getting individual clients

at one time in silicon valley, knowledge was key, then the cs degree/math degree looked good for a foot in the door, then the certs looked the best, and now we have come full circle in a post dot.com world in IT...knowledge (the thing that makes money) is the all important thing

many cs grads and certified people are out of work...but if you are the only person in town that knows how to write sound card drivers...believe me, you will get a job

if you are one of the only people who know how to work database systems, you have a job today in san jose

knowledge never goes out of style but certs and degrees only help when the going is easy

now that things are tough, only the knowledgeable survive and nine times out of ten in the valley, those people don't have certs or degrees

i came into IT late in the game in my thrities, so i used college and cert training as a way to get into the field fast

many self taught knowledgeable people were into high tech for twenty years before they even got their first job in IT

i was not building circuitboards at age 8 but those people are all over san jose...nothing else to do in this most ugly city in the united states

in some magazine, we were called uglier than new jersey...enough said i guess

I was just kidding, my real name is Reinaldo Torres, that is even too long for the US. Most of the time people at the movies tese with long names.

Usually, lating american people are very catholic and names like Maria (Mary) and Jesus are very common. So, not every body can be called Maria, so you will find Mari Alejandra or Maria Virginia or Maria Ana (Mariana), the same thing with the guys.

On the other hand, we keep our mothers last name after our father last name, in that case my name is Reinaldo Torres Jugo, my father is Rene Torres Baralt and my mother Beatriz Jugo Martinez, or Beatriz Jugo de Torres. The "de" means she is married.

If the family name is very important I would keep both last names and my future wife would be "her name"+"her last name"+de+torres jugo. But that doesn't happend anymore (in the last 100 years), there are family last names that are composed, specially italians.

So, it is a tradition to have one name, one middle name too, like Carlos Eduardo. In my case "Reinaldo" is long enough I think.

Remember too that the words in spanish are very long by them self, in english the tendence is to make everything shorter like "BTW" or Tim. That is something that you won't see much in spanish.

Capish?

Hi! My name is Doug. And I bought my first mac in late Sept. 2001. I have always been a PC Hardware junkie, but for a notebook I could find no better stuff that what Apple produced. So I waited until Apple put out OS 10.1, and got myself a TiPB 500. I am diffinatly not "converted" as I doubt I will ever buy an Apple dekstop. The PC world just has more stuff to tinker with.

That being said, I am very happy with my TiPB. I am an "everything else" manager in a 2 person company. There's the owner, and me. I program in 4th Diminsion (www.4d.com), a programable relational database. Since it was origionally only availible for the Mac, and recently(last few years) went cross plaform, it's mac support is still far better than PC.

I am 25 (26 in Sept.), and live out in the boonies (Batavia, IL). I call it the boonies because even though it is very close to Chicago, and is "suburbia," broadband still hasen't reached us.

too funny

i live just 53 mi. south of san jose, 75 mi. south of apple, and 125 mi. south of san francisco and broadband has not reache us either yet, unless you count dsl with yields slightly better than dialup or isdn/t1/e1 style lines which cost a mint just to have

thirty miles away, dsl is only $19.95 a month and works like dsl should with dsl base stations everywhere

when they get around to putting dsl around my area with a proper base station three mi. or less from home, apple will have come out with a G7 and the internet access thing won't be an issue

Well......

I'm 21 and a student at U of M, going to major in computer science. I also work for the Info tech devision at U of M as a student temp. which alternatly gives me time for learning cocoa, and playing with all the cool new apple hardware the comes through the temp "sty" to be radmin'd.

I went to Western Michigan University for 2 years before comming to U of M and while there I worked as a web designer/site manager/tech support for a class on sort of a interdisiplinary look at all the artforms

First Apple product was an Apple IIc.
Second was a performa 636cd
third was an iMac/ rev a
fourth was a blueberry iBook
fifth and present is a iBook dual usb 500MHz

I plan to eventually start a company in my spare time making free/shareware for OSX. It will be called SinForge Software, so keep your eyes open in a couple years

My fiance just graduated from U of M with a BA in Art History. We plan on getting married sometime next year. After I get out of school I'll go where ever she gets into grad school and try and get a job in Web dev or mac support/programming.

I converted her to the light after getting so frustrated at trying to get her Wintel to work with a printer that I made her take my old iBook when I got my new one

My favorite pasttimes include getting the shaft from every which way from U of M, specificly Student Accounts and the EECS department, with an occasional LS&A reaming for Sh*ts and giggles.

I also enjoy occasionally helping people in the campus computer sites with their computer issues buy showing them how to do it easier on the macs. Usually followed by a "I didn't know you could do that on a Mac!" from the person I'm helping with getting a word file to print off of a floppy disk.

Well nuff said
