I'm looking to outfit my soon to be on its way MBP, and am looking for advice on best memory supplier. RamJet? Crucial? Someone else? I won't buy from Apple -- too expensive.

It isn't really a DRIVER issue per say but more of a Firmware or something special on the 15's limiting them from the 8GB. People report 6GB work fine but anything higher and the OS dumps.
I heard OS X will only use 6 GB of the 8 supplied, because Leopard is not a pure 64-bit OS but a 32/64 bit hybrid. Snow Leopard however, will use all of it.

That information does not apply to the 17" 9400m-based MBP. It can take, and utilize, 8 gb of RAM. The ability (or not) to take 8 gb will not be determined by Snow Leopard in all likelihood. Most probably a hardware or firmware issue.
