Did you have the camera on before starting up FCE?

Hi,
In the middle under the capture viewer, it reads 'no communication'. Perhaps the cable from the VTR, or cam is not functioning, or the cam connection is broken. When all right it should read 'VTR ok' or something like that.
It seems you have a hardware problem.
Succes, Richard

Need more input:
1) What is model/ make of camera?
2) Do you connect the camera to Mac via USB and/ or Firewire?
3) What "easy setup" parameters have you set in FCP?

Coen

What type of video are you trying to capture? What camera(s) have you tried?

1) What is model/ make of camera?
Sony PD170/bog standard mini-DV cam
2) Do you connect the camera to Mac via USB and/ or Firewire?
firewire. 4 to 6 pin
3) What "easy setup" parameters have you set in FCP?
I have tried
format: (all formats)
use: custom
and
Format: PAL
Use: DVPAL.
i am thinking that it could be a dead cable, at least i hope it is as easy as that.

When you have the camera hooked up to the computer go to About this Mac->More Info->Firewire and see if the computer sees the camera. If it doesn't then try a new FW cable.
