View Full Version : How do you Wear your Watch?

TEG
Mar 24, 2004, 11:05 AM
I'm curious as to how you wear your wrist watches. I'd like to know if you wear it face on the inside or outside of your arm, and which arm that is. I just think it is an interesting thing about how people differ in wearing their watches.

I'll Start:

My Watch is Worn on the Left arm, face on the inside of my arm.
It is only a problem with digital watches, where flexing the wrist activates the buttons.

left wrist fossil titanium - usually facing out, but with the metal band, it rolls from out to in often, and I'm just used to it either way.

4 watches up the left arm (all Rolex) 6 watches up the right arm (more rolexes) and 16 tucked inside various pockets in my trenchcoat (antiques-found them laying around the museum) :p

Seriously-no watches for me. I have a hard time making them last more than 6 months before breaking.

When I had a wristwatch, I wore it on the right arm facing out, even though I'm right handed.

Now that I have a pocketwatch, I clip the chain to a belt loop and put it in my right pocket. If I'm at a formal event, I clip the chain to the top of my waistband under my belt.

I don't want to be left out, so... left, out

Actually, I've changed how I wear it from time to time. I wore it facing inward for a few months, just to see if I liked it, but decided to switch back to the outside. And I wore it on my right hand for a while, just to try it.

And I'll see your question and raise you one:

Do those of you who wear a watch in the daytime also wear it at night? I don't.

Yeah, I haven't taken my watch off since...November 2003. I wear it in the day, in the night, in the sleep, in the shower...it hasn't died on me yet. :D

I wear it on the right wrist, and it faces whichever way it wants to face depending on what I'm doing.

Sometimes it would slip around to face inwards, which I didn't care about, so sometimes it faced inwards.

I wear a Casio G-Shock Wave Ceptor/Tough Solar, its great.
It runs on solar energy (rechargable batt that charges via solar cell), recieves atomic time, along with the non-shock design, time memo (idk what it's for), and water resistant up to 200m.
Sounds expensive.....but it isn't.....$80 USD at a local Wal-Mart.
I've had it for almost a year.
Ohh...and the watch has never run out of stored energy.
This is my 5th watch....all Casio's...all used for about a year then abandoned...but this is gonna last me...all the others were like kid watches.

I wear it on my left wrist (even though I'm left handed) facing up on the outside.

Don't watches seem much more interesting now?

Post of the DayŽ Award. Redeemable at any Del Taco for free paper napkins. ;)

But to answer your question, no it doesn't make watches more interesting. "How was your day, in 6 sentences or less?" is even better.

I skinned my leg this morning. My cough medicine made me drowsy all afternoon. The weather is cooler today. Tonight's West Wing was one of the best I've ever seen. My leg hurts terribly. And I don't wear a watch--my wrists are too thick for most watches.

And I'm ready for some product releases to talk about. :(

Watch: Left wrist, facing outwards

Sunglasses: Each arm placed either side of my head and balanced over my ears. The main arch central arch is supported by the bridge of my nose.

Underpants: The rule here I tend to adopt to help me each morning is that each leg should find it's way into it's own "cloth funnel", remembering that any "fly" hole in a mid-garment panel tends to be at the front. Attempting to insert both legs into one funnel is liable to cause all manner of distress the first time you visit the bathroom.

Nermal

How overly descriptive of you. Please tell me you haven't had both legs in the same "funnel" before

Not without noticing in time!

But 2 people wearing the same underpants at the same time never fails to be a fun way to meet people.

Back on track: I've looked a the two people next to me and they too are left wrist face up watch wearing people, just in case anyone here was keeping score.

Skaagen (black or blue face, depending upon day/event) - left wrist, facing out.

Years spent at the front of a classroom have taught me many things - among them is the phenomena that if I take a look at my watch, at least 75% of the class will have to look at theirs. I tried wearing my watch facing in for a while (easier to look surrepticiously), but ruined a few faces. Now I just make sure there's a clock at the back of the room.

Attempting to insert both legs into one funnel is liable to cause all manner of distress the first time you visit the bathroom.

Watch: Left wrist, facing outwards. Kept on 24/7 so I don't need to think about it in the mornings.

Shirt: Each arm through respective hole. Head through hole in top. Logo to front.

Jersey/Jumper/Hoodie/Sweater/Whatever you want to call it: As with shirt, one arm down each "tube", head through top, hood towards back.

Underwear: Let's not go there.

Pants: One leg down each tube. Zip to front.

Socks: One on each foot. Quite simple really :)

Shoes: "Left" shoe on left foot. "Right" shoe on right foot. They just slip on, no tying required (or possible).

Necklace Thingy (not sure what they're actually called, it's those 1 cm metal balls that are all joined together): Around neck. Like watch, it's kept on 24/7. Took a lot of strength to clip it on, apparently getting it off is even harder but I've never tried.

That's all. I'm more descriptive than you. :p

Edit: Forgot this one:

Belt: The end with the small metal tag (the "small" end) goes through the loops at top of pants, starting from the front, in an anti-clockwise direction (when looking down from above). When it's gone though all the loops, the front panel of the other end (the "big" end) is tilted up, the small end is inserted in the gap between the panels and pulled to desired tightness. The panel of the big end is then pressed down until it clips on.

That description is ridiculously long

Sorry, Nerm. I'll be serious, too...

:p

I wear mine on my right wrist, face up. Gets in the way of writing otherwise. Also, I find that time used to travel SO much more slowly at school, because the watchface used to catch my eye as I'd write, and it'd be kind of hypnotically SLOW to watch the second-hand "thud" away.

The answer? Well - THREE options, really.
1) Remove watch
2) Swap wrists
3) Place a piece of gaffer/duct tape over the face (<-- THIS REALLY WORKS!!!)

When I'd work as a Camera Assistant YEARS ago, I had a tyrant of a boss who used to be very demanding - and the shoots used to take an ETERNITY. The gaffer tape trick really kept my sanity, as previously I'd be glancing down at my watch every 2 1/2 minutes, and the day would feel like it took 4 years longer than it should have... Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!

since when was this a serious thread? and you're right, my comment was in response to your post...yours seemed a bit sarcastic so i thought i'd continue the "thread".

and i was being serious. Its a choker watch, and not only is it on my neck, the face of the watch is on the BACK of my neck. I have to use two mirrors to see the time. Luckily the numbers are all written in reverse so i have no trouble with that, but sometimes i get the direction of the second hand all confused, and when people ask about clockwise or counter-clockwise then i'm really in a bind.

I'm left-handed, and I always found it awkward with my watch on my left hand. just for women? ive never heard that. im a left wrist outside guy myself and im right handed. it would be interesting to see which writing hand people are compared to how they wear the watch. when i was about 12 (yeah its been a while) i guessed which hand people were by looking at them. . . surprised a couple until i told them that if they wore their watch on their left hand people were likely right handed and if they wore it on their right wrist then they were left handed.

i have a really small one. what makes watches annoying is my wrists. they are small so in most cases i have to look the infants watches.
