display problem with ibook 500mhz

if i open my display more then 3/4 than it shuts off(the display).....but if i only open it 1/2 way then it works fine....i was wondering what could be the problem....it is just sitting there wasting away if i don't get this fixed

Sounds to me like some sort of short in the connection between the LCD and display controller. I may be wrong, but that's what it sounds like to me.
