I find that some people like their watches as a personal statement, while others perfer it as a practical time peice. What kind of watch(s) do you wear?

I love this timepeice....

I used to wear a Champion watch for years...but there were a couple of "problems"... The face of the watch got scratched so easily....

And then, one day, the buttons got loose, and the watch turned itself off. I couldn't get it back on. So it was sent to Champion with a $22 fee for fixing (even with the unexpired warranty...and that watch cost $45 w/o sale prices!). When I did get it back (only two months later), I went to put it back on my wrist, and the strap came loose. The needle-thick fingernail-long pinchable metal "rod" that held the strap to the center of the watch came out. I struggled for 90 minutes trying to get the motherf***er back in its place, and couldn't. AND...Champion didn't fix the original problem completely! About 25% the time I pushed a button on the watch, the watch turned off for a second, reset itself to Jan. 1 at midnight, then turned back on again with all my settings erased!

I'm never getting another Champion watch again. http://www.thetechpub.com/phpBB2/images/smiles/new_snipersmilie.gif http://www.thetechpub.com/phpBB2/images/smiles/new_snipersmilie.gif

So now I wear a Timex, but I don't like the faint tan color near the outside of the face.

I had a huge G-Shock and after many years it acted like it needed a new battery. Got the battery replaced and it stopped working about a month later. Took it back to where I got the battery replaced and they said the watch had died, so I'm watch free. I'd like another G-Shock, but can't find one with all the features I want. I really like the countdown timer.

I wore a rolex for a while, but the band broke.

This thread makes me want to get a new watch. But I am kind of picky in this regard. (1) I hate a black face or band, (2) I don't want analog only (3) I don't want a digital watch that looks bad, or has a square face, and (4) I want the digital part of the watch to display the time.

It is kind of hard to find all this in one watch. A 'anadigi' watch is a good solution, but I have only found 2 I really like:

So, any suggestions or opinions?

i'm a watch fanatic, so bear with me here...

during the day i usually wear either a blue dialed stainless rolex with a jubilee band or a steel and gold rolex with oyster band and thunderbird rotating bezel. for the rare times i dress up in the evening, i wear a cartier tank...if i wear it during the day i'll break it. only took me 3 crystals to figure that out. my favorite "fun" watch is my 1972 pulsar P2 LED watch-just like james bond wore in " live and let die". it's very sleek..and hey, it lights up so i can see it at night. i wear an timex indiglo 1440 sports watch when doing any athletic stuff...it's actually pretty cool looking and was only $15.00.

My battery hasn't run out yet :)

my first G-Shock battery lasted from '97 to '00, then I went to the G-Shock factory (it's actually just a shop) in Carnaby Street to get the battery replaced, and they came back with a comedy quote, it needed to be sent off, the battery replaced and then resealed, so I decided to buy a new one instead... and this battery is coming into it's 4th year now... ;)

Already got my eye on a replacement G-Shock though.... :D

A Jaeger-LeCoultre steel Reverso for the last 2 years. It's a single-face auto (that's what Jaeger excel at....the company, unlike a lot of Swiss makers, builds its own movements) and it's pretty accurate. I've still got my previous watch- an Omega Seamaster, the "James Bond" watch. Boy, did that watch take a beating. The strap-pins need replacing, but the Omega wasn't as accurate as the Jaeger; it would probably benefit from regulating (again....).

The maintenance on these watches makes them a pita, but I love them. I've never liked quartz movements, even though they're more accurate.

excellent choice :D i have a reverso memory that i wear once in a while... jaeger also makes movements for a few of the more renowned companies like breguet and audemars, though those compnaies are working to ween themselves off of jaeger's base movements

i wear the Contemporary Apple Watch, the old one with a blue rim and multicolor logo. i'm a definite watch-collector in the making, i'm fascenated by them... but don't have the money or time to do that at this point. I do love mechanical watches, especially the naked watches they're producing now. Simply beautiful. I'll add that i refuse to use a digital watch or clock, because i think it's an oversimplification and i feel insulted every time i look at one... plus they're so damn ugly. i have about a dozen clocks at home because i just love the way everything comes together in certain designs...

By the time this one runs out, they will probably have perfected solar ones that last forever (might have them already). In that case, I'll replace this one when it runs out then I won't have to worry about it again :)

I took a look at Casio's site, they do have them already. They're called Tough Solar and it says that you "never have to replace the battery, ever". But they still have a trick up their sleeve! Apparently the date function "only" works up to 2039. So if you're reasonably young like me, you still can't buy a watch that will last you the rest of your life.

My dad gave my brother a Stainless Steel Rolex Oyster Perpetual for his 21st birthday 17 years ago - For MY 21st, I got a crap gold chain, which wasn't even $30 (NZ)...

I felt a bit cheated at the time, but now I don't REALLY care anymore. Dad's currently got a gold Rolex - it's an ugly yellow gold colour, and I prefer WHITE gold. So when he finally kicks the bucket (sad though as it may be...), I'll probably get it. Then, I'll sell it in favour of the one I like...

...unless, of course, my dumbass brother gets to it first. He's such a possessive gold-digger. If he does, then good luck to him. I'm also a firm believer in Karma - and he'll get HIS in the end....

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I know mine's finally coming to the end of its lifespan - back in 1998 I had to FIGHT Seiko tooth-and-nail to get new o-rings manufactured for it, as it was not supported any longer. However, they were finally cool about it, and Seiko Japan had sourced some, and freighted them out to Sydney free of charge. And the total cost of repair? $50 (AUD). Great service....

The biggest problem is that every time the battery needs replacing, then the seals have to be broken. I was lucky that Seiko UK had some replacement o-rings when I had it done LAST time (around a year ago), but it cost me like £100 just to get it up to spec.! That's the equivalent of $300 (AUD) for the SAME SERVICE!

So - I'm looking at a kinetic-style watch, or even a nice Tag-Heuer. Ultimately though, it'll have to be a diver's watch.

But, then again, there's Dad's Rolex Oyster Perpetual to look forward to...

i went window shopping again for watches and i found a new one i like...but many of the models are over my limit of 500 bucks

they are swiss made watches for the burberry clothing line...famous for raincoats and overcoats...most models look good as a casual watch but they are elegant enough to be dressy like the movado watches, which cost a little more

but for everyday watches, i like the sub 500 dollar market of seiko titaniums, the blue angels watch (by seiko or casio or somebody like that in the 300-500 dollar range), and the hamilton military style watches

for a tight budget under 200 (and often under 100), there are the swiss army watches and the fossil watches which look very durable

i like tag heuer and though they look very durable, most models are out of my general price range

if money were no object, i would more likely go towards a breitling instead of a rolex which can cost 2x to 10x more in the case at macy's or local jewelry store near me...but if the rolex was low key, that would be cool...i don't go for 18kt gold watches covered with diamonds and no matter how many diamonds there are and how much gold they use, they have a cheesy look to them ;)

That's just crazy. My watch has a phone book function that I've never used, as well as a day counter (how many days it has been since X/Y/Z), 5 alarms (I've used a total of 3), stopwatch, and dual time (also never used, but could be useful if I ever go overseas again*).

The Seiko was great, and it was the first one they made, but something broke inside (part of the Kinetic apparatus), and it'll be quite costly to fix it. I may do so someday because it was a gift from my dad, but so was the new Fossil.
