visited macfixit and discovered IE 5.2 released - installed it very painlessly and have to say it is very snappy. Uses quartz so suppose to look better (can't see it myself but then again I trust m$ implicitly!!!). Here is the guff:

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Internet Explorer_5.2 for Mac_OS_X

Whether you're searching for information, tracking online auctions, or browsing Web pages, Microsoft Internet Explorer_5.2 for Mac_OS_X makes it easy to make the most of the Web. With Mac-first innovations_— such as Internet Scrapbook, which lets you collect pictures, receipts, and more_— Internet Explorer makes the Web easy and fun. And perhaps best of all, it's free!

This latest version_— version 5.2_— provides all the latest security and performance enhancements for Internet Explorer_5 for Mac_OS_X and a new home page_— www.msn.com_— for Internet Explorer. It also provides support for the new Quartz™ text smoothing feature provided in Mac_OS_X version_10.1.5 and later, so text on your screen is easier to read.

Note__ Internet Explorer_5.2 for Mac_OS_X is not compatible with Mac_OS 9.x or earlier. It requires features that are available only in Mac_OS_X. If you use Mac_OS 8.1 to 9.x, you can download and install Internet Explorer_5.1.4 for Mac_OS 8.1 to 9.x.

Released: 6/17/2002

I was using it for along time last night (mainly browsing these forums :)) and to be honest, appart from the QE text smoothing I found no difference what so ever.
In speed, or anything else :(

I agree, i see no difference at all , in fact i think its worse!

I get beachball more often now, it could be that my cable modem is having a bad day, but it a day at the beach for me!
