Setting up colour profiles

Has anyone had any experience in setting this up before?
I need to get consistant colour profiles running on a macbook pro, powerbook, and a new imac (once they drop!). No idea how to go about creating them from scratch, but would be great if anyone could offer advice.
Basically would be across the Adobe Suite, particularly for print, but i am a bit of a colour n00b!

Invest in a hardware monitor calibrator. There are several on the market that can do the job such as the Datacolor Spyder3, Xrite i1 Display2 or the Xrite ColorMunki.
