closing the lid.. not the typical question

ok so i know that you can use a program like insomniax to prevent the macbook from sleeping when you close the lid but is there a program that will do the same but turn off the screen or backlight at the same time?

I dont think that thread is exactly what i was looking for. I read it before posting this thread.

I noticed with insomniax when i close the lid the screen still stays on, this means having to press shift ctrl eject every time i close or open the lid, i need an app that does it automatically when the lid is closed.

I think the display would turn off if you used the clamshell mode talked bout in this knowledge base article (which was also referenced in the other thread).

The reason I am making this assumption is this statement from the article:

"When you're finished using your Apple portable in closed-lid mode, the internal display will not function when you open the lid until you have properly disconnected the external display. To properly disconnect the external display, put the computer to sleep and disconnect the display cable from the computer. Open the lid and the computer will reactivate the internal display."

I also think this would eliminate the need for using insomniaX.

I have no desire to use an external display.
What I want to do is be able to close my macbook and while it is closed I want it to:
1. stay on, NOT sleep
2. turn off the display or at least the back light
3. do the above with minimal interaction from me (aside from closing the lid)


right now I can achieve the desired results by turning on insomniax. then pressing control shift eject to turn off the display. then closing the lid.

is there a utility that will do the "control shift eject" when i close the lid?

the key command is a built in command in OSX

I know of the option in insomniax... my question was is there a program that will sleep the display when i close the lid automatically without me having to click the option in insomniax or press the keys for osx. if you enable insomniax and close the lid the screen stays on.. using more battery power.

I think i have just the thing.
Hot corners. You have the option of sleeping the display when you put your mouse in a corner of the display. Thats basically a short swipe of the trackpad.
Check for it in preferences.
You cant get any more picky than this.

I highly doubt you can find something like that. Just set a hot corner (I think it's called) to sleep the display, and just move your mouse there and close the display every time. Much faster than the shortcut. I've been using the corner thing for so long, that it becomes really automatic for me whenever I move away from my laptop :p

hmm i thought so..

I actually use the sleep display hot corner on my desktop.

the hot corner will def be quicker to use than the keyboard shortcut

why did nobody state the obvious? just leave it be and the display will turn off in a minute or whatever your setting is. not that big of a deal

i have my display to not sleep
im pretty sure a lot of people have the same as well
