As you may or not know I have a powermac 7100/66. I bought system 7.01 on ebay today for $11 shipped and I want to know if it will work on my system. I heard that only systems after 7.2 (or around there) work with powermacs. Is that true? Can I still install it?
P.S. was $11 a good price for an original set of system 7 floppies?

According to this (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermac/stats/powermac_7100_66.html) you'd need 7.1.2 or greater.

Indeed that's correct.
System 7.1.2 was specifically designed as the first system to run on the first PPC Macs (6100,7100,8100).
Why not download system 7.5.3 for free from Apple ?

Most people would probably say no, but I'd say yes. I like running my old Macs with the OS they shipped with, and 7.0.1 is great for the original round of Quadras (the 700 and 900, although the 950 will run 7.0.1 as well).
It's also good for a lot of the '030 Macs, where you might want to run System 7, but not 7.5.x, which got to be pretty slow on the older guys.
If you decide you don't want them, lemme know - I'll give you $11 for them. :)

It's a good price for the floppies but a bad price if all you wanted was System 7. Apple have had System 7 (and 6 I think) online for years now.
