iPhone 2g screen not closing during calls

Hey guys. I have a 2g iPhone and lately my screen hasn't been "closing" when I put it up to my ear causing me to sometimes accidently to push the mute button. Is one of the sensors broken in the phone? Has anyone else had this problem?

For some reason your proximity sensor isn't detecting your face. Have you tried a restore?

If this doesn't fix it and it's still under warranty, take it to the Apple store and get it checked out. You may just land yourself a new (refurbed) phone.

Do you have a case or other form of protector on it? That is often the cause of this problem.

I have a protector on the screen but nothing else. It has been working great for a few months up until now. Maybe I should restore and update it to 2.2.1?
