Connecting camera to Mac

OK, I have a new nikon coolpix that when I connect to my computer does not come up anywhere or like a removable disk. My old coolpix cam up like a removable disk which I could just copy files to and from and select certain files but not others but now the only way I can get the photos is through iPhoto (2005) and I can only import everything. Is there a way that I can get itfas a removable disk or something?

You can also use the Image Capture tool in the applications folder to quickly select just the ones you want and copy them to the disk.

Check your camera setting and look for usb setting. Your camera might have the usb set as output for something else
