View Full Version : Should I stop using my Powerbook battery?

Hey all,

I was using my Powerbook G4 today on battery, and I'm running Temperature Monitor to keep an eye on temps. I had been watching a movie, and about halfway through, I noticed the computer was getting uncomfortably hot underneath. I checked Temperature Monitor and it said my battery was at 68 celsius. Concerned that I was going to damage my computer, I immediately shut down the computer, and tried to remove the battery, but the casing was so hot I was unable to remove the battery. I hit the latch and allowed the battery to fall out of the computer to try and cool itself. All the other temps were well within the "normal" ranges, but the battery was obviously way too hot. Is this dangerous?

EDIT: I'm charging it right now and the temp for the battery is right at 52 celsius right at startup

Did you check to see if yours falls under the recalled battery campaign?

I was able to get a replacement for my G4 iBook via this and it was already 4 years old at the time!

I forgot to mention, I did look, and my battery does not appear to be affected by the recall.
