New systems are shipping with iLife '04 bundled, correct? (specifically the powerbooks). If you get a system that doesn't have a superdrive, is iDVD still included?

I ask because I have a DVD writer that I would like to throw into a external firewire enclosure and edit movies/burn dvds (via the 'hack' allowing iDVD to access external DVD writers).

Thanks in advance,

Rob

I would imagine the iDVD disks are mass-produced, in 1) CD versions, and 2) DVD versions - which ship with either 1) CD-RW/DVD systems and 2) DVD-R/RW systems respectivly. I would doubt the disks that ship for CD-RW/DVD only systems include iDVD - theres no need as you won't be able to run it on your (new) mac. iDVD is probably only included for DVD-R/RW customers.

I could be wrong though.

I can't speak from experience, but I can tell you that I am nearly positive that you will get iDVD. The new version of iDVD is made to be able to work on any Mac, and create projects and images that can be moved to other computers with iDVD to be burned. Steve said in the keynote that it would be useful for schools, because when students wanted to burn DVDs, the school wouldn't have to buy 20 computers with a DVD burner, they could use 20 computers that they had, and buy one with a superdrive. I am quite sure that you will get the entire iLife '04 as a set, including iDVD.

Actually yes - that is correct. You will get it.

Woot! Thanks guys! Now I just have to be patient as I wait for my tax return and for Apple to give me a new PowerBook, or at least a significant price drop on the current ones...
