Ok. About a month ago my 3 month dropped MBP died. like bye bye died.
$1200 repair. My bday is in 10 days.
And i NEED a computer.
Friend of mine is selling a Imac 20'' 4g ram (from crucial). Leopard.
2ghz core 2 duo
recently replaced 250hd from apple
he is selling it for about 860 shipped.
Which thats not a bad price. Its also within my current budget to NOT put me into debt.
Or should i wait for the new Imac.
I'm assuming this computer will have a firewire 800 port? I record music demos for my band. I use logic Pro 8. I use a firewire interface.
I'm just trying to justify around $870 for this machine. Or around 2x that for a new imac that will have almost another 1.00ghz in processor speed. Possible bigger HD. And possibly the 24'' will be the entry level size (my personal hope :))
Thanks for any help.

I think that iMac your friend is selling would have all you need for sure ... but don't listen to me. Someone far wiser in 'Mac stuff' is bound to come along any minute now and sprinkle some knowledge into this thread.

i mean. With my mbp.
It was intense. I was able to record up to 7 inputs at once. Thats pretty damn intense IMO for a laptop.
and i'm pretty sure the HD i had on my MBP was 5200rpm or lower. Which is the reason that i was not able to record 8 at once.
I figure with the 7200rpm hd. + my firewire external which is 7200rpm. + 4g ram. should be fine with a 2.0ghz core2duo. Especially if i only have Itunes, firefox, adium, and logic up.
I'm just trying to make sure i wont blow my house up if i try and do this. Like will a .4 ghz make that much of a difference? i'm thinking no.
Plus with this imac thats 5'' more in viewing than my 15'' mbp.

And, its in a house i'm renting. and i'm not sure if my parentals home insurance would extend to that.

You'd better ask!

Why? It's glare. A scratch would be more defined.

It wasn't specified in the sale description. But it doesn't really look like a scratch. but it could be.

I'm sure you just like to disagree with everything. The OP was obviously uncertain about it, so the suggestion to ask the seller is reasonable.

No in the beginning you might think he does, but his answers are true most of the time, really. I found that out after some time... ;)

I don't doubt his knowledge ability. I just don't see why people have to be that way.

I thought the seller was a friend? Can't you go and see it personally?
Bad luck on the MBP. :(

Well i guess i'll say somethings about it now.
It was on ebay. My friend informed me after he put it up.
And it sold within 8 hours.
I guess who ever bought it possibly made my decision for me.

Well now you can either wait for new ones or buy a refurbished one from Apple.
