Local news made me laugh, well, cry...showed a long line of white iMacs in a school.

...all of them, every single one of them, running XP!

I'm no Apple fanboy, I've got a whole array of computers from past and present running Windows, my Samsung netbook runs XP like a charm....but still.
 
Yea my schools network and computers suck like anything and they were only bought last year from mdg, horrible computers, so slowww

We also have awful computers. In other computer we have nice leasing computers with 2.4GHz dual cores with Vista etc. but in other class (this is really ridiculous) computers with 700MHz processor, 128MB RAM and 32MB GPU. I asked from principal why are those so bad and he said when new technology was bought, there were not enough money for second computer lab with good computers so they had to buy those. It takes 5 minits to get Internet Explorer open...
 
Wow, I feel spoiled now, my school gave teachers a choice between a cart of 25 maxed out macbooks, or 25 17" Dell XPS laptops for their rooms, in addition to the 10 Dell xps workstations per classroom... We had awesome computers. And the arts department got 16 core mac pro's.

School is free in Finland so it can give you an idea why we don't have Mac Pros.

I add for my last comment that we have ~10 iMacs too in art and music classrooms
 
We had BBC's when I was at school, and considered ourselves lucky....

When I was looking around schools for my son, one of the schools had a music classroom full of 24" iMac's and the computer labs were stocked up with Mac Pros... The art department had a mix of Mac Pros and Power Macs (on the CNC machines)... Albight in base config, these machines are still prettty fast...

When I was at school in the 1960's I remember my physics teacher coming in to school with a Sinclair Calculator... It could only do + * \ - and = but for the time, we had never seen anything like it!!!

Oooh I remember those, my uncle had one but foolishly binned it! Classic piece of retro tat, that, would happily adorn my house with one.

LOGO! Yes, I do remember that vaguely. Also, some tawdry brick/wall arkanoid type game.
 
As I didn't get into computers untill the late 1980's I don't remember Logo... Although, saying that my son has recently done a project in IT on logo... Where they had to make bookmarks using shapes drawn in MSLogo!!!

as archaic as that is, there's something quite romantic about that thought! that's the generation of computers i grew up with at school (we actually had some apple ][s after the BBC micros) and i was really excited when we got them!

as good as it would be for them to upgrade them, part of me feels happy! 🙂

i have great memories of playing bushido and other old games in my free time when i boarded off a 5 1/2" floppy, our housemaster used to bring in discs as a treat.
 
Logo...hmm...the app name really strikes a chord and I definitely used it, but I remember almost nothing about it.

Thing is, the computers at my school (I'm 31 now) always seemed like a complete joke compared with what we had at home. Myself and my two brothers were by no means spoilt, but we always seemed to have the latest gear thanks to my dad's job. From the ZX81, Speccy (with a Micro Drive!), Vic 20, Commodore 64, Atari ST (briefly) through to the daddy, an Amiga 1000 with 2MB(!) of ram. The latter was a beast of a machine at the time and was partly why I wasn't as nearly impressed by the Megadrive as my mates were - I'd been playing the equivalent for what seemed like years.

Now Pilotwings on the SNES, THAT blew me away! I remember being in an import shop in Manchester one day and seeing some kid using the Rocket Belt on a Super Famicom in a cabinet... 😱 ....eyepopping at the time.

The Macs at my school turned me into an Apple fan girl 20 years ago.

We had the Mac II with Apple laser printers.

I hate to say it, but for basic word processing, the Mac II runs the same as my Macbook or Powermac Quad today. They were the Quads of their day, I suppose. Fell in love and did not look back on Apple.

Sucks for you! My school gives each student 2 Maxed out Mac Pros (one for class, one to take to the dorm), each with 2 30 inch Cinema Displays with CS4, Pro Tools, and Final Cut Studio!

You must be from poor area. Our school gives us a jumbo jet and Rolls Royce with driver for every student. Kids plays football with mini and we use Mac Pros as weights in sports.
 
so, I was in class today, trying to do lab, took me 4 windows xp computers, after searching that finally let me login to use them
