15mm/2.8 Fisheye might suit you.

It really is a stunning lens and is actually quite flexible as long as you get to know how to use it.

Seeing as the 16-35 is an ultra-wide angle lens, you're not going to get anything wider (even the 14mm is going to basically have the same field of view). I also can't quite believe that you've bought a 1D3 and a 16-35 and don't know that.

Your only option is the 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye.

Just note that a fisheye isn't just `another' uw lens, it will give you a totally different effect. 14 mm is a bit wider. There are also some Sigma full frame 12-24 zooms that give you even more FOV. From your post, I'm not sure these will be too helpful, though, because you will actually need to get closer the action, the larger your FOV is. And if 16 mm doesn't require you to get very close, I don't know what will.

If you want to go wider you've obviously got the wrong body, unless you want a fisheye lens. You need a 5d or a 1ds mk3. That way you're actually getting at the 16mm focal length instead of the 1.3 crop x 16mm.

The EF 14/2.8L (mkI or mkII) is the only rectilinear lens that Canon makes that is wider than the 16-35/2.8L you already have. As mentioned, the Sigma 12-24/4.5-5.6 is an option, but it's slow (which may or may not be an issue for you).

I don't know of any other rectilinear lens that is wider than 12mm. As mentioned, a fisheye is an option, but then again you're not really using a fisheye exclusively for its "wide angle" characteristics. 12mm (or even 14mm), even on a 1.3x crop sensor body, is still pretty wide for most uses. My 17-40/4L is plenty wide for me on the same sensor crop (mkII, in my case).

The 1D is a slightly awkward body in that it has a 1.3 crop factor, so you lose out a bit on the wide end, and there is no '1.3 crop lens' like the 10-22mm made for the 1.6 crop cameras

your 16-35mm works out as 21mm equiv, so should still be rather wide, if you want a bit more you could look at the 14mm prime from Canon (only 2mm difference, which at those focal lengths is a huge amount) or the 15mm fisheye (which is obviously a fisheye, not a normal rectilinear lens)

Beyond that I think there may be som alternatives from the likes of Tamron for a wide lens, but I couldn't say exactly what off the top of my head.

Yikes, how wide do you need to go? I guess wider right?

Do they make some kind of 77mm fisheye filter? Then you could screw it onto the end of your 16-35 and then defish in PS. I know they have them for cheaper p&s cameras to create wide angle shots. I'm sure someone makes one at 77mm.

You can check out the Tokina 10-17 fisheye it is a great lens. Although it is for crop body - I bought it for 30D - but now I am using it on 5D from ~15mm so I guess on the 1.3 crop body you'd be able to use it from 12-13mm.

first of all, a 16-35 is an ultra-wide to wide zoom, not "standard".

there's the 14mm prime and the 15mm fisheye from Canon. your other options are buying something like a 12-24 or 10-20 and modifying it if need be to fit on your camera. there's also the Peleng 8mm fisheye.

The OP has a budget of around £500 which is around US$800

The Canon 14mm prime is on Amazon at US$2020
The Canon 15mm fisheye is on Amazon at US$620

Somehow I don't see at least the Canon 14mm being an option, some of the other brands might be though.

True. Not a lot of low-cost options in the ultra-wide range.

Beware that fisheye, though. It's a fun lens, but it gets old quickly.
