I'm thinking of purchasing Office 04, but I was wondering, what is the difference between Professional, Home and Student?
Do I get less features if I buy the student version??

Duff-Man says....I believe the student/teacher version is the same as "standard" - it contains word, Excel, Powerpoint and Entourage...the only difference is in the price and license agreement. The "Pro" edition includes Virtual PC w/WinXP....if you look at Microsoft's Mac site (http://www.microsoft.com/mac/) it spells it all out.....oh yeah!

Technically, you are not supposed to use educational software for business purposes and that is the only difference. I work for a university so I get to reap the reduced cost benefits of education software. The current (note: pre-'04) office software costs $149 and you get 3 licenses with it. I believe the regular street price is $499. Similarly, Dreamweaver Studio MX runs only $199 for educational whereas the street cost is a wallet-pinching $899.

i am a student. I was just saying Do I get less features if I buy the student version?? so that if the student had less features, i would buy the standard edition.

When is it suppose to come out? (est.)

For a free download, you can try NeoOffice/J. It's got word processing, spreadsheet, slideshow presentation and vector drawing. The price beats any version of MS Office, and you won't be locked into their proprietary formats where your data is not safe.

When is it suppose to come out? (est.)Duff-Man says....v2004 has no official release date yet...it is expected to be in the "first half" of this year but you know how software release dates can slip. If you check the link to Microsoft's site in my first reply in this thread you'll see that Microsoft offers a "technology guarantee" so that if you buy the current Office vX you get the new v2004 for free when it ships...as always, read the fine print to make sure you qualify...if so....just buy now as you've nothing to lose.....oh yeah!

That is one thing I am going to jump on when I get my new comp...highly discounted video editing software through the school. Unfortunately, they don't offer FCP, but I guess it would be prudent to use the program that is on all the Macs at school.

Well you could get FCP from the Apple store for $499 instead of $999 guess its not like the $199 for Macromedia Studio MX from education stores but it still is a discount.

yeah, the students discounts are great. I have bought Microsoft XP, XP Office, and Office.X all for $30. $10 dollars each that is.

I think that my bookstore has FCP for sale but i don't think that there is a huge discount on it though.
