mba trackpad clicking problem

basically i havent had my macbook air that long (few month, maybe few more) but all of a sudden the click button on the trackpad has almost became slightly annoying, that when you press it slightly it clicks in as if youve clicked but nothing has happened, and then i press a slight bit more (normal pressure for a click) and it works normal. its just really annoying and it seems to be getting worse at one end, and ideally id like it to stop.

anyone had this before? anything i can do?

FWIW my button is really loud if I click it in the middle, but sounds fine at the edges. My thumb usually does the clicking though and that is in the middle, so noisy clicks are the norm for me...

how does it compare tothe new glass pad on the unibooks?
To me those are annoyingly loud. Cant see myself sitting in front of the tv next to the wife and 'discretely' surfing if I have to click on that track pad....
sure there is always the tap directly but I like to click;)

Also change your trackpad preferences to use the click bar less.
you can do the glass clicking tricks on the existing trackpad PLUS you always have the option to click.
IMO MBA owners have the best of both worlds...
you can go click free should you chose or continue to use the click bar.:cool:

i forgot about the trackpad preferences actually. but i still dont want a dodgey clicker.

We have two brand new MBAs (v 2,1 rev C), and the clicker on one makes a louder sound than the one on the other. It's similar to the noises described in this and another thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=5103993), and while it doesn't sound completely broken, it's annoying.

Does anyone else have a similar problem with this MBA version?

The button on my MBA track pad is almost silent - little more the a key press but there is a slight click. Nothing like the relatively loud click of the glass track pad. But as you mentioned you can tap to click if you wish on either for a silent "click".

I thought I was really going to miss the large glass trackpad on my MB when I switched back to an AIR but I did not mind the switch after all. I still like the feel of the glass pad a bit better but the smaller, quieter, rougher feeling track pad on the AIR is just fine.

When I had a RevA 1.8 64ssd, the button was silent.

On my RevB 1.86, 128SSD the button is noticeably louder and like a previous poster mentioned it is quieter near the ends but loud in the center.

Also, I occasionally have the issue you mention where the click does not seem to register the first time. However, I am a strong advocate of using the TAP function on the trackpad to click. I usually only use the button when dragging and dropping or highlighting text.

I have not tried taking it in to Apple because it doesn't really bother me that much.

Mine is the same, but I figured that out by checking after reading here. I always click the far left side with my thumb for all clicks. The sides are silent but the middle is at least five times louder with a "crisp" click.

OP, I had the same problem as you about 3 months ago. The button essentially depresses twice. The computer does not register the first depression, but only the second.

I took my MBA in for repair and they replaced the entire top unit. If yours is under warranty, Apple should do the same.
