Thought it would be neat to start a thread to post up info for other members on various design lectures around the UK - as I would like to know about the interesting ones too :D
A few of my fellow designers and myself are off to the next 4 D&AD president's lectures here in central, which look great.

If there are any great lectures coming up, post them here - and we all might bump into eachother there! Should be good for the students that lurk here, as you will usually get cheaper student rates on the lectures also.

Yeh, I think student members get 1 free... or they used to?
I'll keep my ear out for you :)

I went to see Jan Van Toorn at the Mermaid Theatre last night, was 'interesting'...
Here are some clips from Peter Saville at the D&AD presidents lecture, of which I also went to:

Basically, the lady asked questions that were at least 30 secs or more long. So by the time she ended her question, we had no idea what she was on about. Short, sharp questions they were not...
And then poor old Jan, I don't know if he understood her drivel, so he spoke about almost anything jumping from one thing to another - almost speaking lots to cover any misunderstanding.
I don't blame him, I blame the woman asking him the questions. Such a contrast between this session and the one with Peter Saville. Even if his ego made me nauseous lol
There's also a lecture up in Manchester if that is near you:

thats sad to hear... I'll admit that the things that Jan is passionate about don't lend themselves to simple questions. I learned a tremendous amount from him when I studied with him, but it took me more than a semester to really start to understand him... once you grasp the core issues of his work its much easier to follow his thought process as he jumps around.
I am *quite* far away from the U.K., but I figured I would post this up anyways. Here is a free lecture we are running with Hugh Dubberly. He is always a great speaker. The lecture is titled "Design in the Age of Biology".

He's a great designer, and I respect him a whole lot. He did a lot to further design in the Netherlands and beyond into europe and america, at a time when design itself was rather stagnant.
I agree, it was a shame that she was awful in her role as interviewer/presenter - but it doesn't reflect on him at all.

Just to bump this. Went to the 8x8 event last night.
Was really good, they should be doing more in the future, and you should be able to see the videos online soon from their website.
