No it's not, but nice try. MBAir has a 13.3" screen and most netbooks have screens that are 10" or smaller...:eek:

The MacBook Air is far too large to be considered a netbook. If anything the iPhone is Apple's netbook.

I just purchased the best netbook on the market; the Sony Vaio P for the War Department and the OTD price w/Office was $1064.67, nowhere near $1975.50 OTD price for the MBAir...:eek:

Because they know if you they push the netbook moniker people will think it's a basic device and demand lowered prices.

See, the thing is about netbooks is that they are generally smaller than 12-inches, and usually aren't very powerful machines. To find something that fits in the category of small but powerful, Apple released the Air. The problem is that any computer (Mac or PC) that wants to be small but powerful is also going to be expensive. That's why many netbooks are so cheap -- because they're small and super slow and run like crap.

Well, as soon as the War Department returns from her trip abroad with her Sony Vaio P, it is my desire to "hackintosh" it and run Mac OS X Leopard on it...:eek::cool:

i can seriously say that the intel Atom chip is not slow, nor does it run OS X like crap at all. the biggest limiting factor is the RAM imo. sounds like you've never used one. and the main reason their so cheap? its because the Atom was designed to be a low cost, low power chip.

While I will agree with PlaceofDis' statement about netbooks run fairly well. The Atom chip is no Core Duo, put it thru it's paces and benchmarks it will show the difference between say a Duo Core MBA and a Netbook. There is a reason it is so cheap :)

Netbooks work great for checking mail, surfing the net and basic tasks but get into some multi-tasking and you will see the real differences. If you find one in a retail store that has them hooked to wifi, goto Youtube, start a video, then a HD video. I've seen the Dell Mini 9, Acer One and the HP all nearly freeze up trying.

These netbooks look to me to be the perfect portable video playing devices but the fact is they simply don't have the power to do so. Great toy to mess with but not a replacement to anything.
