With the GPS programs coming out, I wanted to get a mount for my car's windshield. What's the best?

i would recommend getting a pro clip usa mount if you want to connect it to your dashboard. they are pretty pricy but i use my iphone as my gps system with the g-map app. it works very well and is the best solution i have used with any phone. good luck

I second that, I use a Pro Clip and it is worth every penny. I picked up the adjustable version for the iPhone so it can adapt no matter what case I use (or no case at all).

My wife bought me the Kensington and I love it. Rotates, has been attached to my windshield since xmas pretty sturdy and doesn't droop.

Pro Clip all the way. A little pricey, but after you install it and use it for awhile, you'll agree that it's worth every penny.

Proclip is waay expensive. You have to buy the holder and then buy the mount.

So far I think I"m leaning with the Kensington one with the flexible arm... Thanks for all the input.

Just got the Griffin Window Seat, excellent build quality and all the attachments for original iPhone, 3G, and touch. Sturdy and rotates. Brilliant!

Use your desktop dock! Pull off the rubber foot, go to an auto parts store and buy some strong hook and eye or Velcro and put it on the dash or wherever it will fit. I have been using it in my Jeep and it has only come out once during a hard bump. For most street driving it works well. Also, use your usb cable and adapter plugged into an inverter for that power hungry Iphone.

Ram Mount, under $40 for clip and mount

Their website is not the easiest to navigate, but you can pretty much pick and choose what kind of holder/arm/mount/etc you want

http://www.ram-mount.com/mount/iphone_3g_mount.htm

I went with the Product Number: RAM-B-138-AP6U

+1 for ProClip. Yes, it's pricey, but looks much neater than anything else I've come across.

I don't know which ProClip holder you've been looking at, but the link you posted looks nothing like a ProClip.

I'm looking for a suction cup with a flexible arm. I don't want to put anything super sticky on my dash or anywhere on my car.

For those with the ProClip - any issues with it scratching the iPhone?

This is what I'm using. I forget the name of the company but I pick it up at Yellow Hat in Japan.

I never saw the proclip before. Now seeing it, I ordered 1 for my car and one for the wife's. Probably the cleanest mount I've seen.

Dont buy that universal type of mount. In about 6-8 months the sun degrades the plastic and the damn thing won't hold anything. I have owned a couple of 'em and they are junk. Go for something like Ram Mounts or the like that is tailored for what you need.

I use a Brodit/ProClip, worth the money, very sturdy once installed. Doesn't do any damage to the phone what-so-ever.

Really?

Go to http://www.brodit.com/
In the Devices section on the left
- Select > Apple
- Select > iPhone
- click Search

---

Go to http://www.proclipusa.com/
- select your country
- click on Device Holders on the left
- Choose Brand > Apple
- Choose Model > iPhone...
- click Search

---

Once you've chosen a model (holder/mount), you can google the part number... and you might just find a good deal somewhere.

im not a fan of the flex arms one

my ram mount is solidly mounted on my dash by the use of 4 hex screws, there is ZERO play. This is key when you are trying to type on it, or scroll around while using it

still damn 12 bucks is cheap

What car connector do you have going on there? Does it charge and allow non-airplane mode?

Schosche AV cable (its the only cable that would work with my 7" in dash screen)

Check out this simple case idea and vehicle mount. www.stickyfingerscases.com

Its a simple velcro concept that works really well and has no bulky profile

Basically, its the fuzzy side of velcro that acts as a protective case for the phone, then it comes with the male side to put in the car or on the computer so the phone just sticks where you want it...

It can also be used to mount the phone to the side of the computer for an easy sync and charging station....

only $9.95

I've had one that I used for a year. Did everything I wanted it to and never let me down. The only reason it broke was due to user error. Went ahead and spent $10 shipped for 2.

I use the same thing. I ran a USB extension cable under the dash and the regular dock cable up the side of the door. This works great! The iphone never fell out, it very sturdy and holds the phone a a great viewing angle.

I am using a tilt and swivel mount from proclip. It is also adjustable so it will fit my 3G. It is a two part system one specific to the vehicle and location in the car. The other to the type of unit you want to mount. In my case the bracket holds my 3G and TomTom 920.

Another ProClip fan here. Just added one to my wife's 2008 Volvo C30. If you search the forum you'll find pictures of the ProClip in our VW Passat and my Dodge Dakota as well. We've got our iPhone4s in cases so no scratches. I recommend the cradle with the dock pass-thru connector. Combine this with combination USB + aux (line) out cable (search Amazon) and a 12v USB micro socket and you can have your iPod music playing thru just about any modern car audio system (factory or aftermarket).

Works great and fits just about any car. I love that I can take it on trips to use in rental cars. Despite its looks this thing is actually quite sturdy.

I was looking for an iPhone Car Mount for awhile (and needed it to fit the Aluminum style case like the Element case (I have a knock off ;) ). After a bit of research, it seemed like I would have to go with a universal case, but really couldn't find one that would fit. I came across LUXA2, who was known more so for making the desktop holder for the iphone, but they came out with a suction cup car mount which is pretty good (pricey though at $60). It's cheaper than the pro-mount, and in my car, I can still place it on the plastic portion of my dash. =P

Another +1 for Brodit. I've got them in two cars - a Volvo and a Jeep - and they are simply the best. Yes, if you just look at the installation bracket on its own it's often a bit ugly, but once you add the iPhone mount the bracket generally isn't noticeable. And with the variety of dock connector options you can get one to suit your needs. Both of mine are hardwired to a USASpec iPod/iPhone adapter and the iPhone just pops into the mount and connects with the dock connector plug and I have music and navigation running through the car audio system.

But as an alternative screen mount I bought a Navigon mount which is very neat and unobtrusive and absolutely rock steady. It's a handy device to have for those occasions when you need to have your iPhone sat nav with you in a rental car or someone else's car.

This one is easier to attach, and less clunky. A good solution for some people!
