I think when you purchase an ipod, you should be able to add a 9mm to your online shopping cart with 1 free clip for $19.98...

hmm... with the ipod battery, do you think the ipod has enough battery to zap someone... lets say... 2... 3 hundred times?
:D
wonder if it would be a good business to make add-on tazers?

In the UK, if you attack your attacker in self defence, you are likely to get arrested yourself. Unfortunately, the law is on the side of the criminal.
The UK is a country of thieves..

Well whenever I'm walking with my iPod I only have one ear bud in and the other hanging over the ear lobe. Generally for safety reasons but also I don't want someone to sneak up on me for those very reasons. Certainly I wouldn't risk dying for an iPod but in most cases if you go balls out on an attacker, much like a rabid animal, the attacker will come to the realization that he's bit off more than he can chew and question if the iPod is really worth the risk.

I agree with you for the most part, but would if he has a gun? My solution is: don't use the white earphones...

They don't have guns in the UK... after Dunblane, they banned them all.
Tae Kwon Do is of no use if you are a grandma in a wheelchair. You can be a cool grandma if you have an iPod mini in a wheelchair. ;)

Criminals like soft targets. If you look like you are NOT a soft target, the criminal will take a pass on you and look for a soft target.
Soft targets are usually ones that are not aware of their surroundings. Listening to an iPod can certainly add to being distracted from your surroundings.

I dont even think hand guns were even allowed before that. The US is the only westernised country that gives you the right to bare arms (conceiled hand guns- and they wonder why so many people get shot every year???)

It will be a bad day for Apple when iPod sales and deaths from gunshots are correlated.
At the moment 11000 US citizens die from gunshots every year, and there are presumably very few of those directly related to the roughly 2 million iPods in circulation world wide. But if the death toll rises considerably when there are 20 million iPods out there, you can bet that Apple will be held responsible by their detractors.

That's why you get the Belkin Pepper Spray Adapter (for docking iPods only).
But if I use differently colored headphones, how is everyone going to know I'm listening to an iPod? :D

Oh no, I see can it now... some american deciding to sue Apple because they were mugged due to their iPod... after the 'McDonalds' farces - 'I'm a lump of lard and its your fault'..., an american sued a cable company because they became addicted to TV... and numerous other examples... this wouldn't actually surprise me!

Unfortunately, you have just fallen for the classic trap of the misinformation about US crime rates.
US Crime rates has been falling, and is actually lower than UK crime rates. Since the US has more population than the UK, of course the amount of crime is more. I think at last count, the US has 4.5 times the population of the UK.
I think the correct question to ask is, "Why does the UK even have crime at all, wasn't the banning of guns supposed to eliminate crime?" Clearly, it hasn't.

Yep.
Thats why we need US legislation, lets see... lets call it Lawful Commerce in Portable Music Devices Act. That way, we can stop the people from suing (sp?) legal manufacturers of music devices from the illegal acts of others.
I don't see this happening though. Because you will have cities such as Chicago and New York suing music device manufacturers for the costs incurred in fighting music device crime.
Yes, the above is entirely made in jest, but look at the similarities between the above and the arguments against SB1805, the Lawful Commerce in Arms act, that sought to protect gun manufacturers from frivolous lawsuits.
