The laptops were just updated 5 months ago so just get one now, they are fine machines and I think the next update will be september after the Back to School program.

I would agree with this guy, even though everyone keeps arguing that Apple updates every 6 months. There is no worthy upgrade right now, unless they add bigger HDD or more RAM or something like that, but there's nothing in graphics or processor they could currently use. The next worthy upgrade should come early next year (I'm guessing Q2) when the mobile i7 or w/e they are will be available.
So just buy now.

I'm glad to see YOU'RE so sure of quadcores in a laptop form-factor... :p
End of 09/Q1'10 seems to be the 10.6 window

I was going to wait for the snow leopard but my old vaio kept dying on me and i need something to do my homework so I just bought it.
If you think you can wait, just wait until then and maybe you might get the free iPod when buying a macbook or mac book pro as well.

OK people, I'm not sure if you are coming from a PC background or what, but the Macs are called MacBooks, PowerBooks, Notebooks, but NEVER Laptops...

It may be a toaster, but there already is a quad core laptop on the market.
