View Full Version : UPDATED: Screen with lines to be replaced by genius bar...

So, of my two revB MBA's, only one has lines. After bringing them both into the genius bar and setting them side by side, the genius agreed that there were faint lines visible on light backgrounds, and is having it sent off to have the whole top housing replaced. Here's to hoping that it works out...
UPDATE: so despite the fact that I have some authorization from the genius bar to have my clamshell assembly replaced, I just checked the status of my order and it says "no issues detected." I'm assuming that apple is within their right to do this, but the paperwork clearly states that the lines are visible in store to multiple geniuses.
I'm thinking about taking my paperwork to my local Apple Authorized Service Center and having them do it. They're usually glad to have the work, and I'm assuming that they'd just bill Applecare?
Thoughts?

Im just afraid that it will end up worse, with more distinct lines or some other random issue. :/

They should have just replaced it on the spot. There are so many fixes for the MBAir that just aren't out there yet. Doesn't matter what they do to fix these things, but there always seems to be something not quite right with them. Even though they replaced the logic board on my MBAir, it still heated up and the fan ran at 6200rpm. Replacing the logic board seems like the last resort and it seems to me that when the do that and the fix is not successful, your MBAir just never returns to "normal" and Apple Store Techs just throw their hands up in the air and say, "oh that's normal for the MBAir!" :mad:

Yeah, but I'm well out of my 14-day instant return/exchange... I've had them since Nov and Jan, respectively.

Id love to tell you but its currently MIA. The genius I spoke with said that he would do the repair in-house if he had to, but its currently somewhere between here and texas and no one knows where. Its been 9 days on a 3-5 day repair. Im about to go through the roof.

Sounds like the Genius sent it to Houston, TX, which happens to be the Apple Depot. That's where the major repairs are done and shipped back directly to you or to the Apple Store, whichever is more beneficial to you... :eek:

go to the support page and check the status of your repair if it has shipped back you should have a fedex tracking number. i just had my macbook pro repaired. that is how it worked for me.

The last update was 4 March, and it says awaiting pickup, with my local apple store address to the right. And all anyone seems to know is that it's not in TX and its not here. The good news is that whenever it is found, they're going to repair it anyway.

This is REALLY WRONG. Perhaps you should demand a refund or replacement. I would be pissed if I spent that much on a MBA and couldn't use it for ten plus days.

Yes, get a replacement, but you will have to end up replacing its screen also :rolleyes:.

Agreed. Sounds like a lazy genius bar, as the entire MBA has to be taken apart just to replace the display. Not sure about "on the spot" as they have to order the parts in first (2-3 days).
Someone posted that they made an appointment and ended up buying pastry / coffee for the entire staff to get the manager to agree to in-store swap, which took about an hour.

Well I just canceled my appointment at the Genius Bar. I have a feeling I would be given ********* like sorry its within spek! & me saying forget it, and hateing the apple store even more.
But I just booted up and the first thing I see is four hundread, gray, horizontal, faint one pixel wide lines! :( RRRRRRRRR!

So they found my machine, and got it back to me. Unrepaired. With a giant dent in the top. I mean, giant. Semicircular, as wide as my (albeit girlish and tiny) fist.
Apple customer relations is figuring it out now.
Sigh. I've been stuck with my MBP as my mobile machine and it feels like a brick. It just cements my appreciation for my MBA...
