It looks like the 2.66 X5550 supports 1333 MHz , while the 2.66 E5520 supports 1066 MHz memory.

it would make sense to order 3rd party memory if ordering the Two 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon from Apple.

Do we need registered or unbuffered ECC memory? Not sure.

Though the spec section only says ECC, I would think it uses Unbuffered, as it's less expensive than Registered. ;)

The chipset can support either, but it's possible Apple may have chosen to disable Registered in the firmware.
