I'm wondering whether the IR receiver has been removed from the new Mac mini? The photos make it look like the IR receiver is still on the right of the DVD slot. But nothing is mentioned about the IR receiver on the tech specs page (unlike the iMac page, which lists it under "Other").

Any ideas?

P.S. It looks like the Apple Remote no longer comes in the box either.

I don't think so because you can CTO the mini with the Apple Mighty Mouse as detailed under the Mac mini specs page:

The mighty mouse is bluetooth i belive.

And OP: It looks like it is still there... I don't think it was listed previously on the specs page either. They used to include the remote with the macbook too, but now they are don't.
You can add on a remote, so I would say it is still there!

The Mighty Mouse is Bluetooth, and independent of the IR sensor (which is used solely for the remote).

The IR remote is still listed as a purchasing option for the Mac Mini (for $19), therefore, I think it's safe to assume that the MacMini is still equipped with an IR sensor.

It's worth noting that the remote is no longer included with any Mac: it must be purchased.

Infra-red sensor is still there.

Remote is a purchase option.
