Which do you get? There is sonnet and then some other companies? Which one are the best? i went to xlr8 and there is no real comparison about that. Just goods and bads. Which do you recommend? I have a bw g3 350. I wan to add the g4 to use idvd once i get a burner.

I haven't upgraded a blue and white, so I can't really give you any advice on a particular model. However, I have always been happy with the support and functionality of Sonnet's upgrades.

I have a b&w with sonnet G4 500 and am quite happy with it. if you want a higher clocked G4 from sonnet than 500mhz though it will lower the system bus down to 66mhz. thats for the sonnet G4 700, G4 800 and G4 1GHz. highest G4 you can put in them and keep the 100mhz bus is a G4 600 from owc. here is the link: http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_Item.cfm?ID=6688&Item=OWCZG4500B600
my b&w was a G3 350 like yours is and going to the G4 500 made a huge difference. if the owc G4 600 was out when I got this 500 I would have gotten it as its only 30$ more. osx runs like os9 on a G4 cpu. the G4 600 chips are only a bit slower than the 1ghz upgrades because they keep the 100mhz bus. don't get a 800 or 900mhz G3 like some are. those have a very high failure rate and are only about the speed of a G4 450 is most cases.

i believe OWC (www.macsales.com) has every upgrade listed for Mac's.
My suggestion is go here (http://eshop.macsales.com/MyOWC/Upgrades.cfm?model=41&type=Processor&TI=%23TimeFormat%28Now%28%29%2C+&shoupgrds=Show+Upgrades) and compare the options OWC has with the XLR8Mac.com reviews and see what's the best for your budget.

you're about 80% right. they carry every brand but XLR8 (now known as Daystar) maybe owc and xlr8 don't like each other...

I have always used powerlogix upgrades...they have a 500mhz G4 for a B&W...has user-adjustable bus and backside-cache ratios...do not know how it compares to other companies offerings (sonnet, owc, etc...) in price/features, though. I have never had a problem with either of my upgrades from them..here is a link

its 299 though. the sonnet G4 500 is only 199. sonnet isn't overclockable though. sonnets chips are real no fuss chips. stick them in and they work. you never have to think about them again.

I agree with Blue&Whiteman, I have 3 G3s I have upgraded using the Sonnet Chips. My G3 at home now sports the G4-500 CPU and my 2 G3s at work are both using the G4-800 CPUs and all 3 have noticeable increases in performance and (also adding the Radeon 7000 Graphics card) I now actually enjoy playing my Links Championship Edition :>)
And I liked the fact that they were all just a "plug-n-play" kind of setup.
