Can't wait to try a modified ROM!

Evan

Don't get too excited yet - read my progress report here. (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=877437&page=3) One bullet point:
OpenGL tests are only running at about 350 fps - that's slower than my creaky old GeForce 7300 running the same tests
I hope this isn't the end of the story.

I have a working card now!

This is for:
XFX ATI Radeon HD 4870 HD-487A-ZWFC Ver G.1
Snow Leopard 10.6.4

I'm running this system:
Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro1,1
Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz

Process:
From a BootCD I flashed the card with this ROM:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=10534659&postcount=63

Installed this patch (twice):
http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=10244228&postcount=3

The patch/package really did have to be installed twice as the author suggests, I rebooted between package installs but I'm not sure if that is required.

I also started from a fresh install of 10.6.4, so all of the drivers and extensions were unmodified before I installed the patches.

The card is installed in slot 1 and is the only graphics card in the system.

After I booted everything works fine now, the QE+CI and OpenGL is working, and very fast at that! Both Dell monitors work just fine.

I couldn't have done any of this without the effort of a lot of people, thanks!

Thanks for trying this Evan, you dug deeper than I did to sus out the right set of patches! I will try this later on today, starting with a fresh 10.6.4 install to clean up my system.

What frame rates are you getting? Can you post a GLView screenshot?

HA !!!

you must work in marketing !!!

you cropped the bottom off the test Window ...the important part that shows resolution and where you set MS and AA.

Without any load on it the thing is spinning like a top.

Sort of like saying a bloated SUV gets 50 MPG then leaving off the Fine Print that says "Going downhill for 3 miles straight"

Very glad you got this troublesome card figured out !!!

Now re-bench it with some load and dont hide the important parts.

MS should be set to 4

AA at 16

and check he "Benchmark" tab....adds a few more spinning squares.

At least we have 4870 ZWxx cards figured out ...at least until 10.6.5 !!!

Hi all,
I'm having a Sapphaire 4870 512mb, and using bootcamp into windows 7, trying to use GPU-Z to dump the rom, unfortunately the rom no is a kind of xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxyyyyyyyyxx and when i click 'save as', there is a pop up window stated that the rom can't be dump.
I'm too hurry to skip it, and using the instruction as this: http://web.me.com/jacobcroft/4870Flash/4870Flash.html
Unfortunatley the 10.6 or windows 7 can't recognize the card and only dark screen.
May anyone having good experience with this card, and I'll be very very appreciate if can provide the original rom, and the flashing rom as well.
If i trying to re-flash the rom again, should I flash back to original rom first, or
I can just straight forward to flash the right modified rom again?

Really Thanks if anyone can Help~~

Hahaha, no I'm not in marketing! I didn't set anything, I actually didn't even think about it :) I've been so busy I didn't notice those frame rates where in the thousands...

Anyhow, here is a better screenshot, with the settings you suggested:

Yeah, this points out the need for a standardized benchmark setup; I couldn't exactly reproduce evan's results because my screen is a different aspect ratio.

I followed Evan's procedure and I too now have an XFX ZWFC Rev G.1 running at full speed! Woo hoo! Hopefully the driver patch will continue to work when applied after a future 10.6.5 update.

The driver package from Keita 1's post made all the difference. Here's a benchmark from the system I'd previously gotten working using netkas' package of 4890 patches along with the benchmarks after applyig Keita 1's patches. (I think the "Passed" status for OpenGL 3.0 is an anomaly - look at the associated FPS.)

So I'm essentially reproducing evan's results except for a small derating factor that I couldn't select his exact screen dimensions.

Thanks to all the geniuses that pulled together to make this work!

Hi v0n,

I'm having same sapphire 512mb as yours (P/N: 1 x P/N 188-01E85-001SA SKU 11133-00-20R), i'm trying to get your modified rom as your provided link, but seems the files gone, may you fix and upload again, thanks very much

Thanks to pipomolo42 fantastic instructions and help with original rom, here's my slightly modified ROM for Sapphire HD 4870 DDR5 GDDR5 2DVI TVO, the one with the RV770XT chipset, part number 188-1E85-001SA, SKU: 11133-00-20R .

Default clock speeds are returned to Sapphire 4870 Toxic values: Memory frequency is 1000Mhz. Core frequency in 3D mode is set to native 800Mhz, idle speed remains at 500Mhz. Unlocked Windows CCC Overdrive values allow soft overclocking up to 990/1200. Fan spin up bug fix has been applied, so it doesn't go loud in random intervals. Verified to be Winflash friendly under Vista and HDMI works in windows as well.

Download link (http://www.2shared.com/file/5149472/9c427558/s4870_800.html)

It should also work with Sapphire SKU 21133-04, 11133-04, 21133-00 and 11133-03, but we won't know until someone tries.

My video card just died (third one in this machine!) so this seems like the right time to upgrade.

So what's the best card to get for flashing? Recent threads use the Sapphire 512 MB, is that a good place to start? If so, is there a particular model I need to get?

Or is the 4870 what I want? Is a 4890 workable and worth it? What about the GTX285 using an injector?

I followed Evan's procedure and I too now have an XFX ZWFC Rev G.1 running at full speed!

Update: The Keita 1 ATI10.6.4Patch.pkg patches killed support for my X1900 in 10.6.4. Anyone know which element of that package might be the culprit? It not essential, but it would be nice to be able to swap the x1900 back into my system if need be without reinstalling the 10.6.4 Combo Update.

For reference, here are GLView benchmarks for the original 7300 that came in my Mac1,1 and the reflashed X1900 that replaced it, now replaced again with the XFX 4870:

The Screen shots I have attached are from the benchmarks I ran, and they seem to be much lower then the other benchmarks posted in this thread. Is this because the rom I'm using is old? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I'm at a loss.

Click the "extensions" tab..maybe you are using software rendering?

Which would mean driver isn't loaded.

Have you installed any hacks or cracks?

Just ran a 4870 1 Gig....MUCH higher numbers.

Looks like the software render is running, what the hell? How do I fix that?
I haven't installed anything fancy on this machine that I can think of at all.

I also just updated to 10.6.4 since I figured I'd get around to doing that, and I'm now getting 0 fps in the benchmark lol.

can you find an image of card and attach?

are you certain you never installed Zeus / Natit / ATY_Init stuff?

And certainly none of the "4890 Fix" packages?

I would rec that you start with re-running the 10.6.4 Combo and see if that helps.

Do some digging...pretty sure someone did an XFX 512 Meg. Do not try a 1 Gig Rom !

To the other poster with ZWFC, those cards have always been slower than most by 15% or so. More than that is odd.

Hello all. I followed the same procedure quoted above with one exception, I used an older rom (the one quoted wasn't available at the time). My problem is that I get the cpub fail issue when it is plugged into the computer. Black screen, no boot. I tried using the Natit app but it didn't work either.

From what I gather from this thread (it is long and I am a newb) I need to get my hands on a PC with an empty PCI express slot and a PCI video card so that I can re-flash this thing. Is this the case? If so, I have no PC to use. Is there some other method I could try?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Specs:
MacPro 1,1 (bought early 2007)
existing card is NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT
new card is Sapphire HD 4870 512 GDDR5

Hey guys. I made this quoted post back in October. The response was that I needed to find a PC. After trying to find friends with the right PC and having no luck I shelved this card for a while. It has been mocking me each time I look at it. I really want to get this thing working.

Anyone have any suggestions on where I can find a suitable PC without having to buy one? Anyone willing to take this card by mail and try flashing it?

I need help,

I bought an ati sapphire 4870 1gb sku # 11133-99-90R. for my mac pro 1.1 ghz 2.66.
Until now still can not do anything. I installed the card and ran on windows (bootcamp) but the windows does not recognize the card. When I run the gpu-z the card is not detected.

When I saw that gpu-z did not recognize the card tried to install the card drivers to see if this was recognized but nothing happened.

The only difference now is that the fan runs at full speed.

What can I do to make windows (bootcamp) recognize the card?

Help me! :)

it will either be unde graphics adapter (or whatever it's called) near top

otherwise will be lower on page as some form of unidentified device

if it isn't there anyplace, could very well be dead

The command I am using is ATIFlash -f -p 0 macxfx.rom. I verified that 0 is the correct ID, I even tried flashing it in a PC with it being the only video card and it still wouldn't work. Any thoughts on what I can try? I was going to try and use the ATIFlash Windows version but it only recognized the card as having 64k of flash.

Any thoughts?

Which version of Atiflash are you using?

If you search for that text string, I think there have been reports of that issue.

Howdy folks, some really helpful stuff here.

I have the g.1 revision of the ZWFC card, I have flashed the ROM Cindori posted for the G.1, but only 1 DVI works at a time.

From my reading it sounds like this is fixed in SL, unfortunately I am stuck on 10.5.8 for the time being, due to software compatibility issues.

Is there ANY way to get dual DVI on Leopard 10.5.8 with the ZWFC?

I have dual DVI working fine on Leopard on another machine with an older version of the same card (the ZDFC).
I have installed the driver package from http://groths.org/dualdvi.zip just for fun, and it didnt do the trick (makes sense, those are SL drivers far as i know).

I wasn't able to get stable operation of G.1 hardware under 10.6.4, even though the card runs fine under Bootcamp. On the other hand, emoseman (http://forums.macrumors.com/member.php?u=386955) got this same rev card working with presumably cindori's same ROM image under 10.6.4 and hasn't posted back with any problems. Is this the Red board from Newegg?

Or is it blue?

There are 2 different versions I know of. One has a small black heatsink that is a solid line, the other has this same heatsink that has cutouts in it to reach some components.

If you are getting the "EEPROM not Erased" message there isn't much good news.

I tried 4 different cards like that.

1 flashed just fine is OSX with Zeus. The other 3 all did the "Not Erased" thing.

They did it in PC or Mac. I gave up and just switched out the EEPROMs for fresh ones. There might very well be a way to flash them using some obscure command in ATIFlash. For things like this you should consider digging through the PC Forums for 3D Guru and such. It is quite likely that someone else has had this trouble.

Also, are you 100% certain that someone used Rihldinger's XFX ROM on that card? His was for the XFX ZDDC which is a VERY different card. And as I said, there are 2 different versions of that Asus, and they require different ROMs. Using incorrect ROM doesn't work well.

And a final thing, the Asus cards both work great up to 10.6.2. After that you either need a DVI-VGA adapter on 2nd port, or the "Dual DVI" fix.

I have dual DVI working fine on Leopard on another machine with an older version of the same card (the ZDFC).
I have installed the driver package from http://groths.org/dualdvi.zip just for fun, and it didnt do the trick (makes sense, those are SL drivers far as i know).
Any help would be much appreciated!
($20 via Paypal in it for anyone who can help me get this working, hehe)

Ben,

What was the procedure you used to flash that card? I have the same one and get kernal panics when i try to boot with it powered up in my 1.1 MP. Did you have to use windows or what? I also cannot seem to find that rom you refer to since i have the G.1 version as well. Is it still on the forms somewhere?

That's wierd, it seems to have disappeared. @Cindori - did you take down your original post? Attached is the ROM image he modified for the XFX HD478A 1GB ZWFC Rev G.1.

So i can use this rom directly with ATIFlash on any modern windows pc to flash my card? i had issues putting windows on mine with bootcamp so i'm not going to bother with that anymore.

I used ATIFlash under HIRENS boot CD with this result (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=10540757&highlight=#post10540757).

But note that I currently do not have stable operation of the card in my 10.6.4 system; I had to remove it.

If you are referring to the ZWFC 4870, absolutely not.

While the early XFX 4870s were undoubtedly the BEST 4870s for flashing, it is my personal opinion that the ZWF* cards are some of the WORST 4870s to flash. They are some of the slowest 4870s around, have loud fans that run full bore all day until they seize up in a spiral of heat, and they run exceedingly poor in Leopard, exactly where their forbears were so brilliant.

They are nearly as troublesome as a 4890, without the mild speed kick a 4890 provides. I would avoid a ZWF* at all costs.

So i accidently booted up in 10.4.7 and did not get a kernal panic. Should i bother trying to flash my card or look into sending it back and getting a new one?

Sadly, Zeus does not seem to open in 10.4.7.

So with the ZWFC G.1 there seems to be no way to get dual monitor support in Leopard. But, for us at least, it works fine with a single monitor.
In SL it works fine in dual monitors up to 10.6.4, where it no longer powers one of the displays. Tried downgrading kexts but still only got 1 monitor to have display.
In all, unless someone has some magic tricks, I would agree with the Rominator and AVOID the ZWFC cards at this time.
They are way too finicky. Even if it is working properly, it seems that each release of OSX has the potential to break them.
On a side note, we also have some older ZDFC cards that are still running perfectly, dual monitors, Snow Leopard or Leopard.
Oh well, guess XFX decided to cut some corners on the new revision of the card.

Keita 1 has a fix for the 10.6.4, i havent tried it but if you are having issues with this update check this out: http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=10244228&postcount=3

Are you getting stable operation of ZWFC vG.1 in 10.6.4 without Keita 1's package of kexts? I couldn't get any display on ZWFC G.1 without installing those drivers. And with them installed my operation is still flaky (KPs after some period of proper operation.) Rominator suggested I might have bad hardware but I've run a half-dozen 360p Youtube streams on the card continuously for over 24hrs under XP without problems.

Hi
I have a reference ATi brand 4870 512mb. From my understanding the stock firmware that comes on the official Mac 4870 should work with my card. I have tried flashing it with some rom that a friend provided me, so I am do not know what card it was supposed to work on or where it came from. But when I flashed it using Dos it flashed fine but the Mac Pro booted up to a black screen. Running latest SL.

I looked for the stock 4870 ROM around page 8 but didnt find it.

Successfully flashed a Powercolor 4870 1GB (got off craigslist for $100, yay) for my Mac Pro 1.1 using the ROM by scott4862 (thanks!), post #2221 on this thread:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=9026098&postcount=2221

I used ATI WinFlash in Windows 7 32 bit (bootcamp) to do this, no need to do any of that DOS/atiflash boot disk junk.

Both my DVI monitors work in Snow Leopard (1920x1080 and 1680x1050), everything works well. Had to replace the bolts that hold the fan/heat sink on the card with smaller ones, as the screws protruded too much on the back such that it wouldn't fit in the PCIe x16 slot.

Card is a bit quieter than the x1900xt it replaced too. For the second 6 pin power connector, I made a cable to connect to the power connector in the empty second drive bay (had molex parts at work to do this). Going to get a normal power connector so I can have both x1900xt and 4870 in and powered, if needed (4 monitors anyone?). I was able to flash the 4870 with only one power connector in, however.

The Kexts came from my previous 10.6.3 install. You could also extract them from the 10.6.3 updater from Apple.

ATIRadeonX2000.kext
ATIRadeonX2000GA.plugin
ATIRadeonX2000GLDriver.bundle
ATIRadeonX2000VADriver.bundle

This let my XFX 4870 ZFWC E.0 card work properly again (less the power cable warning)

I tried running Zeus 2.1 to run the QECI updater, but it doesn't seem to solve the problem. Zeus 2.1 did however get rid of my warning at boot up about the power cable.

Thoughts anyone?

And it flashed fine. Now when I start up, my Mac Pro 1,1 just plays the Mac chime that normally only happens once, over and over again.
I think perhaps I used the wrong ROM?
My card is a Gainward 1GB 4870
What can I do now?

QE and CI refuse to work with 10.6.4 and or SL Graphics Update until i've used the RadeonX2000 kexts from 10.6.3 and the ATI 4800Controller/Framebuffer/Support kexts from 10.6.2.

I might be misunderstanding what these files do but does not this mean that we're basically stuck with old drivers?

Hey guys, thought i'd give you an update.

So I used my friend's PC to flash the rom to the one that 666sheep posted and now at least I get to the stage with the light gray screen with a dark gray Apple logo on it and the spinning loading bar. After about 15 secs of loading the screen goes black. I can still hear the HDD's working, so I assume it's still booting up, just that I can't see anything.
I successfully booted up with the 4870 in the second PCI slot, with my 8800gt in the first. Mac OSX did recognise the 4870 when looking through the expansion utility or system profiler.
Boot Camp does load, though I get the blue screen of death after not too long, which may point to something else wrong with my system...?

Any ideas guys?

Get latest Zeus form Cindori's site. It has ROM generator built-in.
Generate your own ROM from PC one and flash. At least now you don't need PC to do it.
I made earlier ROM manually, using pipomolo42's method - maybe then something went wrong here?

I was able to make a new rom by using Zues to add efi to my pc rom. I then used Zues to flash my 4870 (which was in slot 2) with this new rom, which said it was successful. The end result is the same as what i had with the rom you gave me. Perhaps this card just isn't compatible, or maybe I need to reinstall my OS X?

got one XFX 4870 1GB (HD-487A-ZWFL ver.G.1) (two wire fan)
I`ve got early 2008 MP running 10.6.4
steps:
-booted windows with both cards in (second is orig. apple HD2600 XT), saved 4870 rom with gpu-z
-rebooted with only HD2600 (got KP with both cards in, when booting OS X) patched 4870 rom with Zeus (v.2,1)
-restarted in windows, burned custom edited UBCD with rom and atiflash.. (ultimate boot cd)
-flashed in old skool DOS way (Zeus flashing didnt worked for me)
-booted in OS X with only 4870 installed, without QE/CI (Zeus patches didnt worked for me)
-downloaded Keita_1`s patch from http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=10244228&postcount=3 , installed two times (?!), and it worked!
So, one big thanks for Rominator, Cindori, Keita_1 and other people and their experiences..

Last year I bought one 4870, a month later got my second. Put the machine in the shop 5 months ago to have the OS freshened up. Seemed like a good time since I needed to have more back surgery done.
Got out of the hospital, got my machine back, things didn't seem quite right. Fans on both cards weren't spinning up to 100% so I installed CPU-Z, GPU-Z and RBE to check things out.
I noticed the bios's weren't the same...apparently one had been tinkered with quite a bit, the other I cant tell.
Confronted the shop, tech had been fired, they said weren't responsible...blew me off.
Shop has now closed down, so I'm left trying to fix my cards.
Long story short, if I can get the/a bios that will work with my cards I would greatly appreciate it.
Contacted Sapphire, with a ticked requesting the bios files, but no response.
Cant afford new cards, so I'm doing everything I can to fix mine. Could really use some expert "know how" and the bios file/s for my cards. If anyone can help out, I would really, really appreciate it.
Thanks for putting up with the long winded post.

Info on the cards:

I am not sure if these bios is worked well.
Before trying to flash bios, you need have a pci video card.
It can help you to flash back original bios .
give me your mail,i mail the bios to you.

if above all is not worked, try the website(all in the website is pc bios):

For these people who are still using 10.5 (like me) and want to flash 4870:
Dual display works under 10.5.8, at least for my reference 4870 512MB Club 3D - http://www.afterdawn.com/products/product_details.cfm/8021/club_3d_radeon_hd_4870_512mb_gddr5 - flashed with OEM ROM.
I run dual 1600x1200 screens without troubles (via DVI OFC).

fouel Thank you very much for your BIOS. But unfortunately he did not come (which is on the MAC). The original I downloaded from the site http://www.techpowerup.com/. So that the video card is earned in Windows. I want to make the file by the method of Pipomolos with Peloche instructions. And I have 2 questions:
1) The original BIOS file in BIN, and I need a ROM. As can be converted from BIN to ROM.
2) The manual is written "File starts with 55 AA 7C, 55 AA /D, 55 AA 7E" And I started with "55 AA 7B"

1.about bios file in changing bin to rom:
you can use Dos to do that. if you use GPU-Z to do that, the bios you save is the *.bin.
Using Dos,you can type below list:
atiflash -s 0 ***.rom -f
you can get ***.rom
2.I don't know how to modify the manual, because i think it is too complex.

I think the card that pcb is blue is too hard to success to flash for mac.
I recommend you change card that someone is done well and get the same card and bios .
Don't watse too much time for nothing.
If you got the ati reference card 512 mb ,I will give you the matched bios.

The program can only choose 4870 with 1Gb or 4890, and I need 4870 512 Mb. Therefore the crashes error.

Yeah, I used zeus, but the rom I used was a the wrong one. I couldn't figure out how to generate a rom from zeus so I downloaded someone's ASUS rom, but it didn't work.

You need to flash this card in PC now. To create custom ROM from original dump use pipomolo42 script or Cindori's Zeus. Card you've bought will probably have one downside: it won't be immune to SL updates due to custom ROM.
It would be better if you'd buy reference one, but it's too late now.

This card is my first card to flash it for mac.
After I tried to flash it for 1.5 month, I gave up one day.
I find a reference card to flash and I success.

I really recommanded that you get a reference card (512MB) ,DON'T watse time for this card(sapphire 512mb),because it is hard to flash.
Unless you spend $209.99 to get the same card ,the card is flashed for mac.

You can buy one and flash the card rom to yours, then you have two card for mac or pc.
Save you time or spend some money, it is up to you.
P.S.
If you buy an ati reference card (P/N:102B5070110 000001),I will email you the mac bios.

No, it isn't. It has reference cooler only. All reference cards have AMD logo on PCB, red PCB and doesn't need ROM modification, messing with kexts after OS update etc.
Some cards are causing "looped" chime after bad flash, card isn't broken, it just needs to be flashed again in PC with proper ROM.

You should know it better than me ;)

So I just stumbled across this thread and I'm wondering if someone can help me out. I just purchased this card from newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150482) and I'm wondering if I can somehow get it to work with my first gen mac pro. Or, if that isn't at all possible, If someone can suggest a similarly priced card that I can flash to get working with my mac pro.

My mac pro has been great but the video card recently died and I'm having a hard time finding something that will work (and isn't crazy expensive). I don't need anything incredible. I'm not gaming or doing any kind of graphics work I'm using the machine for music. I'd like to be able to run two monitors if possible. Either both DVI (ideal) or one Dvi and one VGA.

Any ideas?

I need a mac graphics card to eliminate this as the problem, i have 2 4870's in my windows machine but no access to a working macpro. So will i be able to flash one of my cards with a mac bios just using a pc?

You can use a PC to flash a Windows based card to Mac & PC drivers, I did this with my first flashed card, a 1 GB Sapphire HD 4870 Vapor-X card.
I took it to a friendly geek with a big enough PC as I didn't have a Windows build on my Mac Pro to use with ATIFlash utility and GPU-Z.

Follow the instructions on how to flash a card in Windows or DOS at this link:http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=877441 but ignore the part about making a DOS build on your Mac.
Worked for me, good luck.

Here is one preflashed: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mac-ATI-4870-1-Gig-Radeon-HD4870-Mac-Pro-Video-Card-/330570309576?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item4cf7869fc8

Various 4870 rom zips are available on this thread, here is one I found not sure if it's the right one for your card: http://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=163032&d=1237410126
and this one is for a Sapphire card: http://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=163332&d=1237563492
Have a hunt around on this thread and you might find a better one. Not many folks are still playing around with 4870s since the 5870 and 6870s started being converted.

Hi Guys i know this is a old Thread.

But ive just managed to get my ATI 4870 working in the my Mac pro 1.1 but something strange is happening. I used the instructions on page 14 on how to create a mac rom from the pc firmware.

Now heres the odd bit.

It will only boot in slot 2 with with the pcie system config set at x1 if you change it to 8 it refuses to be seen. If you stick it in slot 1 at it runs at x16 it cant be seen.

I know slots 1 and 2 work as i still have the old nv7300 and been testing.

Ive also tested other mac roms, again it wont work in slot 1 or at full speed.

Any thought people?

Could anybody (or Cindori) please help modifying my Sapphire Radeon HD4890 Vapor-X 1G GDDR5

PN 288-1E-115-020SA
SKU#11150-05
MACPro 3.1 Lion 10.7.3

I tried several ROMs, Zeus and XYZ to get the ROM file, but it doesn't work. I always get the information: Flash aborted! Possible cause: Rom already identical to card firmware or card simply not compatible with Zeus.

My original ROM

Try this.
4890 need patch to run openGL on 10.7.3.
patch for 10.7.3 (http://rghost.net/download/36417806/1adf2a1e23fe6f8dd57244de4099ee0575a30b25/QE_CI_Exotic_4xxx_10.7.3.pkg)

I've just got a XFX Radeon 4870 512 MB (Part # HD-487A-YDFC) and I'd like to flash it and use it in my Mac Pro 1,1

tried making my own EFI ROM, but I got the following:
OSX-Leopard:~ admin$ cd desktop
OSX-Leopard:desktop admin$ dd if=4870.ROM of=efi.part bs=1 skip=63488 count=49152
49152+0 records in
49152+0 records out
49152 bytes transferred in 0.342599 secs (143468 bytes/sec)
OSX-Leopard:desktop admin$ blocknum=`printf %d "'\`dd if=pc4870.rom bs=1 skip=2 count=1 2>/dev/null\`"`
OSX-Leopard:desktop admin$ size=$(($blocknum * 512))
OSX-Leopard:desktop admin$ dd if=efi.part of=pc4870.rom bs=$size seek=1 conv=notrunc
dd: bs must be between 1 and 2147483647
OSX-Leopard:desktop admin$ python fixrom.py pc4870.rom pc4870.rom
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "fixrom.py", line 103, in <module>
f=file(sys.argv[1])
IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'pc4870.rom'

any ideas what I'm missing ?
Thanks !

^^^  (cmd) + I on pc4870.rom file and see if it doesn't have .bin extension (or else). If so, delete this what is after .rom.
And last command should look like this:

python fixrom.py pc4870.rom Mac4870.rom

where "Mac4870.rom" will be your hybrid rom.

...or just try to use Zeus ;)

I got my 4870 card's rom, attached, and zeus says it has to be patched manually.

It has a beginning hex of 55 AA 80 E9

I have been trying to figure it out, but I need help. Can anyone give me a rom with efi that I can flash my card with?

My card is an ASUS EAH4870 Darknight 1GB

device id is 0x9440

Thanks

Yeah, I tried to help Cindori with the "80" length cards but we had a communication breakdown and I wasn't able to help him.

Try this one, should work fine.

Asus ROMs are tricky...for some unknown reason they leave a tiny floating piece of dreck at the end of 1st BIOS portion.

Artificially inflates size and makes them a nuisance for EFI addition.

Still glad to do "Pro Bono" stuff for the community.
